nasal jejeunal feeding

Hello,

I have just joined the group. This is my experience. I had stomach cancer diagnosed last October, a total gastrectomy 6 months ago after FLOT chemotherapy and immunotherapy. I was underweight at time of surgery and weight dropped further post operatively but I gained a few kilos and recovered enough to be offered post operative FLOT.  Then I had problems with reflux oesphagitis and oesphageal stricture, leading to critical weight loss and chemotherapy was discontinued. Nasal Jejeunal feeding was started 2 1/2 months ago but I remain seriously underweight and haven’t regained any weight. Malabsorption suspected. I have now been switched to peptide feeds and creon supplements. Anyone else in a similar situation? If you had NJ feeding how long did this last? How did you take the CREON, I cannot swallow capsules so open these up and mix the granules in apple juice. I have had a lot of nausea which is a known CREON side effect, hoping it will settle. My energy levels are dire and I have lost a lot of muscle. Supplements - since enteral feeding started I haven’t taken multivitamins but self inject B12. My iron stores are low but I am not anaemic yet. At follow up in clinic nobody seems to be checking up on this so I have asked GP to monitor my bloods.
Any tips?

  • Ah I’m sorry you’re going through all this. My husband had a jejunal peg (his journey different from yours but some similarities- it’s on my profile if you wish to read)

He had been on Creon and it wasn’t good for him at all- a lot of malabsorption issues.  He has been changed to Nutrizym 22 and it has definitely been much better.  Maybe worth speaking to your dietician about?

  • Thanks I will ask about nutrizym

  • I read your profile, my journey has been easier in comparison. What a tough time for your husband
