My fit and well dad was diagnosed a month ago with stage 4 gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis. We were told it couldn't be cured, but could have palliative chemotherapy to prolong his life. He has since started XELOX, with iv given every 21 days and tablets to be taken twice a day.
He is currently suffering from nausea, sickness and diarrhoea. Anti-Sickness medication doesn’t seem to be working. Has anyone else suffered from those side effects? Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.
Hi, my nausea was really bad on chemo but I had FLOT. They switched me to aprepitant and cyclizine which helped me. With the diarrhoea there’s not much you can do unfortunately other than take loperamide and stay hydrated as much as possible. I hope your dad feels a bit better soon, chemo is horrible x
Hi. My diagnosis is similar to your Dad’s. I’ve just had my last (8 of 8) infusion of Capox which appears to be another name for Xelox. I also experienced nausea and sickness, more so towards my 4th / 5th infusion.
If you haven’t already, I’d suggest speaking with your Dad’s oncologist or nurse as there are additional anti-sickness meds that can be considered. In addition to Ondansetron and Dexamethadone, I now have Aprepitant which I’m given an hour before my infusion and then take for 2 days after. It’s definitely helped.
