Hi, I have been diagnosed with early stage stomach cancer. I am booked in for surgery for a partial gastrectomy. The tumour is small and all scans show no evidence of spread. Has anyone any experience of EMR as an alternative to surgery?
Hi, I was told that they couldn’t be 100% sure on the stage of the cancer until they had removed the tumour and some lymph nodes and checked these in the pathology lab. My pathology results were different to what I was told at diagnosis and initial scans, I think I would ask them if they are or can be certain of your scan results prior to any type of surgery. Good luck
What kind of cancer is it? EMR is recommended for early T1A tumours that are well/moderately differentiated. However if it is poorly differentiated or signet ring cell then do the PG- do not take the risk.
The risk of EMR is that you could have lymph node spread and obviously these won’t be removed. Go with what the doctors say :)
