Always raised heart rate - anyone had it with FLOT?

Now it’s a week into 3rd cycle and it’s not looking good for my husband, still can’t go for a walk.
Just sitting quietly his heart rate is 80+ and if he goes to get a glass of water it gets to 100+ straight away.
Obviously he is very worried, could it be some permanent damage, and what the next cycle will do…

  • Hi, I didn’t have this, just wanted to say that I hope he improves soon x

  • Bit of a crazy situation with all that. The oncologist said he can’t refer to a cardiologist directly, need to go through GP. GP says won’t do anything until receiving a clinical letter from the oncologist. Which can take up to two weeks, but it’s important to clarify the heart situation before the operation in July, so two weeks is a lot.

Husband on the phone with the surgery all morning, looks like they’ve called the oncology unit to validate he isn’t insane, and now will give him an initial ECG and a referral. But they’ve also mentioned there is a specialist Onco-cardiology department somewhere in London and the oncologist could have referred him directly.

Just don’t know what to think, now he is upset with himself for making all that noise, thinking that now there will be “heart problems” on his record and it can delay the operation unnecessarily. :(

  • Hi, this sounds very stressful for you both which won’t help his heart rate, would it be worth ringing the Mackmillan clinical support line? x

  • He’s got a referral for ECG and some extra tests in the end, hopefully it’s a temporary side effect of steroids and will go away now that the chemo is finished. The next milestone is the scan on Monday, fingers crossed it says the chemo worked well.

  • Hi fingers crossed the chemo has done its job, mine had a partial effect but I am now 5 weeks post operative and they believe that I am now cancer free, my next chemo will start in a couple of weeks, good luck x

  • That will be a very hard decision if the oncologist recommends more chemo to him, as it was a pretty hard ride before the op. But we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it. :)
Very pleased to hear you are recovering well.

  • I’m having it because the cells inside the tumour were still living, the tumour had stopped growing, I think it’s just to make sure that nothing was left floating around, it’s hopefully the final treatment so I just keep focusing on getting on with my life x
