my journey so far

So after quite a lengthy period of bowts of stomach pain and taking medication a different doctor at my surgery sugested i stop the medication in case it was masking something, and unfortunately the pain returned so i was sent for an endoscopy which was done by a surgeon who knew right away that i had stomach cancer, biopsies were taken and i was sent for a CT scan. An mdt meeting was held and i was informed of the outcome, I had Arenocarcinoma cancer (T3 N1 M x) The M could not be determined as there was an indeterminate left lower lobe pulminary micro nodule that was to be monitored

I now have a staging Laproscopy in two days time which will determine which route of treatment i go down. The hope is that the cancer has not spread into the fluids around my stomach which will mean i go on to a course of chemo 4 x 2 weekly followed by a Gastrectomy and then more chemotherapy with a view to a cure.

I have to say how impressed i am with the speed at which things have gone so far and i am also staying positive with the journey ahead. For information i am a 62 year old male normally fit and well with fantastic support from my wife and best friend Jo.

  • Thanks all for your responses and tips it all definately helps, if there is one thing I have stayed posistive throughout and have  every faith in the experts.

  • Hi Sue

Yes i finished my last pre op chemo a week ago, i have had a CT scan today and now have to wait for results to come through which will be about 10 days they told me. There will then be another team meeting where they will discuss my results I will then be called in for a meeting and hopefully get my operation date.

I am currently feeling quite well now most of chemo side effects are gone, still have no taste and tingling in my finger tips.

Hope your hubby is doing well , and everyone else.

  • Had an appointment yesterday I thought it was to discuss CT scan result but it turned out to be about my operation a total Gastrectomy, the consultant explained all the points I needed to know the pros and the cons, although I don't yet have the date he said my operation will be in the next 2 to 3 weeks, got to say I am apprehensive but looking forward to getting it done at the same time.

  • That’s great news Mick, get it over and done with. Great surgeons at Notts, my husband had no complaints at all, out on the 7th day, apart from a chest  infestation he hasn’t looked back, he’s now starting to put weight back on and eating most foods, his portion size has also gone up as well. You’ll do well Mick X

  • Had my Pre op for surgery this week all went well and my operation is on the 9th May, not too worried about that more worried about Chemo after surgery. Fortunately after seeking advice I am ok to go away on holiday next week to Cape Verde.

I am hoping the sunshine will help with the tinglng fingers and toes which can be quite painful at times a side effect still ongoing along with finger nails going brown and I also had a tooth break off yesterday the joys of chemo.

  • Have a lovely holiday Mick and I hope the sunshine sorts your chemo problems out.  Good luck on the 9th May, my husband was in surgery for 5hr and out of Notts hospital on day 7, so I’m sure you’ll do just as good if not better. X

  • Thanks Sue its been such an help reading the posts on here. x

  • Have a great time. I wish that I had booked a holiday between chemo and my op, what a great idea.

Re your nails and teeth I wear black nail polish throughout chemo which appears to have worked. A soft bristle tooth brush also got rid of any mouth issues that I had.

I had a total on the 12th of April. The op was so much better than I expected, I would definitely advise you to do your breathing exercises. I think they had a lot to do with me recovering so quickly. It takes a little while to adjust to the new plumbing and I might actually put a little message up myself for some early eating advice but each day does get better. Blush
