My husband had two large polyps removed from his stomach just before Xmas. The consultant tells us these were cancerous and not sure whether all of polyps were removed.  They say at this stage can’t tell if cancer has spread.  They gave him two options either remove the stomach or have continued surveillance eg MRi scan in 6 months ? And endoscopy’s. Husband decided with ongoing surveillance.

We are in total shock!! My question is should he have blood tests and 6 months to wait for MRI seems too long to wait? Thank you all

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has recently had cancerous polyps removed from his stomach and I can understand what a worrying time this will be for you both.

Making treatment decisions is always a difficult thing to do and it sounds like you have questions around the surveillance option your husband has chosen.

He should have been assigned a CNS (cancer nurse specialist) to act as his point of contact with his team and they can usually answer any questions he might have. If he hasn't already, it would probably be a good idea for him to give her a call to talk over his concerns re blood tests and 6 monthly MRI scans.

If he hasn't been assigned a nurse then he could ring his consultant's secretary and ask for the consultant to ring him back to go over his concerns with him.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
