Hi I’m new to the group. Never experienced anything like this before.

my dad now has metastatic cancer, organs and spine.

it’s terminal, he’s on drip chemo. He’s still waiting for his last mri scan results from 2 weeks ago, should I be worried?

Are they purposely not giving him the results?

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your dad has been diagnosed with a spinal cord tumour that has spread to his spine and organs. Although I had a different type of cancer I know what a worrying time this will be for the whole family.

I haven't had an MRI scan but looking at this information from Macmillan it suggests that results normally take about two weeks. Does your dad have a CNS (cancer nurse specialist) allocated to him? If so, he could ring them to find out when the results are likely to be ready and how he will hear about them, ie phone call, letter, etc.

Waiting for results can be really horrible and so I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your emotions with others who have a loved one or friend with a terminal diagnosis.

If this is something that you'd like to do just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
