Hi all, I’m Stacey, 33 and in may this year I found out I have secondary alveolar soft part sarcoma. At the moment I am having 3 monthly scans and at the monitoring stage as the disease is stable. Primary site was my right lower leg, was diagnosed at 18. Discharged in 2016 from royal marsden. I’m very lucky but this time I have a small child and am married. My life very different. If anyone wants to talk that would be great Thumbsup

  • Hi Stacey,

My wife has Leiomyosarcoma but like you her cancer is stable - and she has been that way for 6 years so very happy to take that. Janice's monitoring has now dropped to about an annual basis but the oncology team always say ring if you have any questions and we will see you.

Our son was quite young when Janice was first diagnosed and has seen more of hospitals in his lifetime than anyone should ever have to. Even down to sometimes doing his homework of that table over the top of the hospital bed. He is 17 now.

We have always been very open with Michael about Janice's cancer and found some good books that we found helped. There is of course a guide on here Talking to children and teenagers that was a good starting point and of course we shared all the information with his teachers at school who were also very supportive.

  • Hi Steve thank you for responding to my writing. It’s good to hear that your wife is doing well too. It’s just a very hard thing to go through. We have been trying to approach the subject with our daughter Amelia, she is 4 so she wouldn’t understand just yet but we try to include her in it. She just think I work at the marsden I think every 3 months. It all feels so daunting at present.

it may be a good idea to share it with her teachers. She has just done her first term at school. I worry about how it is affecting her but she is resilient I think.

    take care

  • Hi to you all, someone close to me has just been diagnosed with alveolar soft part sarcoma in the mouth. He is a teen. I want to understand more about your experience of treatment and what to expect. Can you tell me a bit about your journey?
