I'm new here I'm, I'm 24 year old male, just worried about a lump in my thigh.
About a year ago I noticed tumour on my outer thigh (left leg). It's hard and doesn't move around when I touch it. now, I started having a pain in that part of my thigh that comes and goes especially at night. I made an appointment with a generalist doctor, he sent to see a traumatologist (because sarcoma specialist doesn't exist in my area) then I had a CT scan showed (tumour size: 7 x 5.5 x 9.5 cm) and it's necessary to remove the tumour for pathology.
it could be a sarcoma ? after surgery the pain will copmletly go away ?
Please send any thoughts or advice. Thank you
I am sorry to hear you are in this position. Until the tumour is removed the doctors won't know if it is a sarcoma. Sarcomas are rare so fingers crossed your tumour isn't one. I was in the same position as you tumour showed up on mri but I wasn't diagnosed until the tumour was removed. Unfortunately I did have a leiomyosarcoma in my thigh. I am being treated at Stanmore hospital which specialises in sarcomas. What area do you live in? I wish you luck with your operation? Keep us posted.
I don’t know where you are but please try to find a sarcoma specialist centre or individual. It is really important that any biopsy work and subsequent excision, if it is deemed to be needed, is done by someone conversant with soft tissue sarcoma if at all possible. As K1934 says, it is unlikely to be a sarcoma, so the odds are on your side. Good luck! Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Armak99
I had similar problems you mention mine was in my right thigh,I saw my doctor who said I'll send you to the hospital just to find out what's going on,after mri scans cti and biopsy confirmed soft tissue sarcoma, had the operation and six weeks course of radiotherapy
They said the tumour has been removed,I have been attending the clinic every three months keeping their eye on my thigh all so had xrays of my chest just making sure nothing showing up there but there has,nt
Hope you don't have sarcoma if it is confirmed theme is plenty of help abd advice around ,this help line and people who use it will help you DONT SUFFER IN SILENCE ask for help
Take Care

Thank you so much Shackleton & K1934 & petnikev for your responses.
as I said it's impossible to find a a sarcoma specialist centre or individual (I don't live in the UK) ' i don't have a choice, the lump is painful ( even in my knee) so this week I have appointment with a ' orthopaedic surgeon '' to remove the tumour soon because I'm really worried about if it is a cancer or not.
please guys i have a question after surgery the pain will completely go away ?
Hi Armak, I can’t help you much on the pain issue - the sarcoma in my thigh was pretty much painless pre-surgery. Scans and X-ray will identify any nerve interference caused by the tumour so your surgeon is the best person to ask regarding this. Don’t forget that it isn’t sarcoma until someone tells you it is! Good luck and keep us up to speed on your news. All the best,
Shackleton
I agree with shackleton it's best to speak to the surgeon. I did have pain before my op as the tumour was pressing on my leg muscle. I didn't feel the lump for a while the pain came first. Good luck with your op and fingers crossed its not a sarcoma. Best wishes to you.
Thank you so much Shackleton & K1934 for your responses.
I saw a doctor (orthopaedic surgeon) after he saw the CT scan results he asked for MRI then he will choose between biopsy or remove the tumour. ' then I needed another opinion, so I made an appointment with another doctor (traumatologist) he was ready for surgery (he didn't ask for more) now I'm confused and worried because it could be a low-grade sarcoma.
Hi you have heard this more than once, but try to put it to the back of your mind worrying about it won't help, when you have the procedure they will send a small piece to the lab when the results come back the consultant will let you know what the result of the biopsy is and how the operation went DONT punish yourself by thinking WHAT IF, have you heard the thinking a glass half full or half empty switch your other head on ( wurzel gummage ) hopefully things go your way and start to think when this is all over what was I thinking about,
I'm sure the doctors have your best interests at heart
Take Care your never far from my thoughts

Hi Armak, how are you getting on?
Shackleton
Any news you can report? How are you doing, Armak? My tumor is similar in size, in the left posterior thigh (between two hamstring muscles). Around 11 x 7 x 4 cm. I am blessed to be seen by one of the U.S.'s top sarcoma specialists. So, anyway, had a muscular-skeletal ultra sound (indeterminate large mass...very suspicious looking). Next came the MRI. "Likely myxoid liposarcoma or other sarcoma" 2 days later at the doctor's office he said, "I think its a rare malignant tumor, but it could be benign. No way of really knowing until we do a biopsy". So, I had the biopsy (surprisingly zero pain, during and after! - just a bit tender at the site the needle went in but felt fine). 9 days later I went to the doctor again and I was all prepared for the worst. I was sure it was a sarcoma. He comes in the room, sits down and calmly explains this 'odd tumor'. Benign! My relief was unimaginable! Now, I do have to wait on one last test - a FISH analysis. Doc should call any day now once the results come in. If that test says 'benign' then I can finally more fully relax.
They already scheduled my excision surgery for SEPT. 10 (I could have elected to have it AUG. 20, but decided to wait. Doc said I could wait to even OCT or later if I wanted as he feels the tumor is growing very slowly. IF the FISH analysis shows a very low grade liposarcoma, then the game changed and a new treatment strategy will commence.
This has been the most stressful past month in my lifetime and I give thanks to God my tumor is benign.
So, I waited until my biopsy results and if positive - then I wanted to join this forum (as I've been reading posts here for 3 weeks or so). It came back benign, however, I still decided to join. I feel a connection with you guys and offer my concerns, hope, and prayers to each and everyone suffering from sarcomas (or worried if they have a sarcoma).
