Diagnosed 7 weeks ago and just keep thinking about the treatment. Decided against mohs as was a years wait. Dr said either flap or skin graft which was 16 weeks wait when I had my consultation. Bcc is on the tip of my nose sort of to one side. Worried how bad it will look. He said he couldn't say which one I will have until have treatment. Though he said he wanted to operate himself.  So tired too . Literally could sleep at the drop of a hat. Anyone else really tired or is it just me. Having blood test Tuesday in case it's my iron or something. So glad found this forum. My husband doesn't really get it. He just says you wanted it cut out. OK that's it. Sorry for the ramble.

  • Hi Bearcarer  I have had both skin flap and skin graft surgery on 2 basal cell cancers on my face.  They were both carried out with local anaesthetic  When I first saw the scars after stitches were removed I was upset but was told to massage with bio oil or vaserline many times a day.  After about 6 months scars were barely visible and now 2 years on you can hardly see them. I know they are there but other people say they cant see them.  I was a nervous wreck when first diagnosed and when I went for the first surgery. Had a fantastic plastic surgeon who re-assured me throughout the procedure and kept telling me evrything will be fine, and he was right.  I do understand how you feel and here anytime you need to ask anything,  Good luck x.  I would add I am 75, not a sun worshipper, always used sun cream, but told it can be age related.  However, I have to wear Factor 50 sun cream every day now and it has become just part of my make up when going out.  Thought I would mention this too. xx

  • Thanks for replying . That's very reassuring. I think it's the not knowing what he's going to do. Also such a long wait. Plus think it's slightly growing.

I now also apply factor 50 everyday. Got to get better at makeup. Not the best at it. I am also not a sun worshiper and currently 48. Don't remember suncream being applied when I was younger . Though I may be wrong about that.

My consultant is also very reassuring.  Wasn't to keen on the one I had for my biopsy.

    Anyway thanks again.

  • Hi Barecarer,

I was diagnosed in January with a BCC on my nose. I decided to go private in August as I was told it would be at least January next year before I’d get an appointment. It was very straight forward, biopsy (3stitches) and 6 weeks later total removal, more stitches. Surgeon originally mentioned skin graft but didn’t suggest it again. To be honest I’m an older lady and I was just glad to have it removed. I am aware of the scar but in time it will fade,  I know a lady who has had a skin graft and it looks amazing. Please try not to worry, the surgeons are doing those ops every day and they are brilliant. Thinking of you.

  • Thank you. That's very reassuring to hear.
