Just joined. I’m booked in for a BCC normal excision on Monday. I just heard about MOHs as a method, from googling BCC removal last week.
I saw the surgeon yesterday and asked why I hadn’t been considered for MOHs. He said that it is used for face and ears but in the scalp the aesthetic outcome is considered less important.
He offered to cancel my surgery next week and refer me to MOHs on a 9’month waiting list.
Does anyone have experience of both? Should I wait? Or get it over with next week.
I’m female, in my 40s with fine fair hair so am interested in the aesthetic outcome. Does MOHs go less deep? Might they save some follicles?
Thanks any advice!
Hello to OP! I am going through the same dilemma currently, have mohs booked for March 2026 fir a bcc on my scalp, but have been told if I do surgical option could be removed within the next month. J sure what to do. What did u decide? How was your outcome?
Hello, so I’ve learned that I think it all depends on the skills of your surgeon. I went ahead with normal excision on my scalp, performed by maxilofacial surgeon. He was amazing. I now have a very small, very neat bald patch that no one notices. 2 days after that procedure I had a bcc the same size on my back removed by a dermatologist. I now have a large, wobbly messy red scar from that procedure. I was advised (by a dermatologist friend) that maxillofacial surgeons are skilled like plastic surgeons so if you’re being seen by one of those you would I think be fine.
