Hi all,
I had surgery in January to remove a BCC from my left cheek nasal labial fold
the procedure went well, and the scar has been healing well
yesterday I had my follow-up appointment with the consultant where I was told the news that I will basically have to have the procedure again, because the margin wasn’t big enough so there may still be some bad cells.
I wondered if this has happened to anyone else and whether second time around, you were left with more noticeable scarring?
It was one of the risks explained to me pre-surgery in January; I suppose you always think it won’t be you!
At least I will know what to expect when I get to the hospital!
thank you!
Hi trail_running_girl and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you need to have a second excision as the original margins were not large enough. I haven't had this happen but over the years I've helped out on this community I've seen lots of posts from people who have. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list and hopefully one of them will pop on to share their experience with you.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Wishing you all the best with your surgery
Anne
Thank you for the reply - I have added some detail into my profile.

hello. I’m having 2 bcc’s removed this coming Sunday. One from forehead hairline the other from temple hairline. I have had it explained that 0.5cm margin will be required around the excision. My friend had same on her leg a month ago. Her bcc was 0.5cm… her scar is 10cm and she has had a call back saying they need to take 0.5cm more!!!! She doesn’t understand this as she feels they have taken quite a lot already. I’m assuming they can only be sure enough has been taken after the histology They wouldn’t call you to return if it wasn’t necessary.
