Im due to have my BCC removed from just above my top lip on the 3rd Nov and i am really worried about what they are going to do. I have seen some awful pictures when i have been looking online at mohs surgery and how much they have to cut away. I know they have to remove all of the cancer. Will i be able to eat or drink after, i was told id have to have plastic surgery.
im getting myself really worked up about whats going to happen
Hi Boom and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I haven't had a BCC removed from above my lip so I don't have any experience with that particular operation to share with you. However, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet and responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.
It's natural to be nervous when you have lots of questions so could I suggest that you give your consultant a call so that you can ask your questions and fully understand what will happen. It's important that you fully understand everything otherwise you can't give informed consent.
I have not had lip surgery but 1 week ago I had mohs surgery on my nose/ nostril.. I had to visit the theatre twice waiting in-between whilst the tissue was examined.
I have to say it was relatively painless process apart from the local anesthetic injections. From admittance to discharge was less than 5 hours. The reconstruction was at a different hospital the following day and that again was in and out in 4 hours.
The week since has been spent resting to allow the full layer graft to take, again with little pain although sleeping is difficult and broken.
Because of the pressure dressing stitched in place, fully opening my mouth to eat is not as it was, but soft foods spooned in and I havnt gone hungry. Though i havnt had much of an appetite due to the inactivity whilst resting.
Dressing Change tomorrow.I will update with next stage procedure & progress.
Hope that gives you a little insight to mohs surgery.
