Hi

I have a 1 cm sunken low grade cancer on my nose tip. I'm going in to surgery on 14 April. I've been waiting since last august and it's been so stressful watching it get worse and having a toddler.

can anyone advise on scars if the cancer has made a dip?

what is the recovery time?

what creams can help with scars. I use factor 50 in winter.

I have very freckly skin will this make my nose look strange?

Sending love to everyone here and thank yous in advance for any help x

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY ,THE MOHS SURGEON SAID IN TWO WEEKS AFTER MY SURGERY I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONCEAL IT ,BUT I CANT SEE THAT HAPPENING  IT REALLY IS STRESSING ME OUT .

  • Hi Feisty.  Sorry that you are going through this.  It’s awful that the original dermatologist dismissed it as a cold sore.  But you are in good hands now, MOHS surgery is the best treatment to be sure that it is all out.

I think at 14 days you might be able to conceal reasonably well with makeup.  I took daily photos of my face post op which I would be happy to send you.  It may only depress you more, though!  But progress was rapid at first, particularly for the first couple of weeks.  Friends assure me now that the scar isn’t noticeable.  But I think, as a skin graft on the nostril that doesn’t match the other side, it will never disappear completely.  But I am beginning to forget about it now.  Today, almost 3 months since I had last stitches out ( and the scar can’t really start proper healing till then), I went to a bank to open a new account, to a curtain shop to discuss curtains, and a supermarket for a few bits.  It is only now, typing this reply, that it occurs to me that my appearance to these various strangers hadn’t crossed my mind at all.  I never wear make up so I haven’t attempted camouflage.

  • Hi there lovely

my nose toook 8 weeks to close and stop weeping green goo. I had two lots of antibiotics, 11 weeks on and  I saw my surgeon and she said about kelo cote scar treatment and the redness and purple is going. It was so purple and angry looking I looked like rudolf. After a few days of treatment it looks lots better.

I found finding makeup hard to cover it as the purple just shone through and it looked like I had a really dry flaky nose. Even the expensive ones.

more important is factor 50 and an all day version of this.

    sending love x

  • I’m glad that you are seeing some improvement from the treatment with the Kelo-cote gel.  I have read others on here have had good results from silicon gel, and I guess this is the same thing.  I looked it up and it says avoid mucous membranes, and given the site of my graft being on the nostril rim I won’t risk it, but it sounds like a good product for scars in other locations.
