Good morning lovely people
I’ve finally have my date for MOHS surgery on my face at the end of this month at Guy’s Hospital, London. Can I ask how people felt after this surgery, the reason for asking is that I am an hour’s away from home and have to travel by train. I’m wondering should I stay overnight and go home the following morning - or is it best to go straight home whilst I’m still numb from the local anaesthetic -will I feel worse the day after? I’m unable to have a skin graft so I’m having mesh over my wound - I should take it as a compliment really as I haven’t got enough excess skin on my face and neck - but it will take longer to heal, I’ve been told. Any advice would be greatly received- pre and post op.
Many thanks

Hello Doris Day fan
I had a basal cell removed from my nose a few months ago by general anaesthetic ( terrible nose phobia )
When i woke up I immediately felt well enough to go home but of course I had to wait a couple of hours.
I think the best thing you can do is ask your surgeon what he or she advises as an hour's journey on public transport may be too much after mohs surgery depending on how long it takes.
Is there anyone that can take you and bring you back?
Thank you Puckettyboo for your advice - hope you are now on the road to recovery xx
I am Thank you. the wound was left open to heal by itself which it has done without any problems. I'm constantly checking my skin now
I'm sure your surgeon will advise you on what to do for the best. I found that they were more than happy to help with any questions I had.
I had a bcc removed from my nose, and a pedicle on my cheek, I had a dressing on for three weeks, and I had to go back every week to have the wound cleaned, and they were following the progress, I had to go on my own, and I had a large dressing on my nose for three weeks, before they finished and removed it, but I think staying somewhere strange would be more stressful, all I wanted to do was get home, I think it would be better to be in familiar surroundings after the procedure.
Thank you hutchm for your advice. I hope you are now on the road to recovery x
I had a Basal cell removed about two years ago and was able to drive home. It did hurt like hell after so ask for pain medication. It will be numb for a couple of hours just be prepared!
I had extensive Mohs surgery on my scalp and reconstruction - I was at the clinic from 7am to 7 pm and then my son drove me home which took 4 hours. It was a very long difficult day and I wouldn't ever want to do it again, but I wanted to be in my own bed that night. I would have thought an hour's travelling would be fine.
Thank you Phenom - I hope you are now on the road to recovery.
Thank you terryke5hwe - I will definitely ask for pain meds! If it’s numb for a couple of hours - I will be grateful, just so that I can get home pain free!
