Basal Cell Carcinoma operation and anticoagulant medication

Hello

I have got a basal cell carcinoma on my left forearm, which I have had for about 6 years. It's about 1cm diameter in size, flat and pink and although it was scheduled to be removed three times, the operations were cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

I have now been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and have been prescribed an anticoagulant, Edoxaban and a Beta Blocker, Bisoprolol.

Any operation would mean bleeding from the wound so I would need to stop taking the Edoxaban for a short period of time but that increases my chances of having a stroke.

Firstly, if I did not have the basal cell carcinoma removed, what problems would I encounter from the carcinoma in the future?

Secondly, does anyone have experience of being in a similar situation where they are taking anticoagulant medications and having any operation with the potential for bleeding from the wound.

Thank you.

  • Hi

That must have been incredibly frustrating to have your operation cancelled three times and now you have the added worry of having to stop medication while your BCC is removed.

I've searched this group to see if I can find anyone who has reported about what happened to their BCC because they chose not to have it treated or anyone who mentioned being on an anticoagulant drug but drew a blank I'm afraid. You could post these questions in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses will aim to reply within 3 working days.

If you do use the ask a nurse service it would be really useful if you could report back what they say for anyone in future asking these same questions.
