I have recently been diagnosed with SBCC and given Aldara Cream to apply once a day for 5 days and to be used for 6 weeks.
I was advised that it would get worse before it gets better but was not expecting how it is now.
it has doubled in size, very painful and sore. It bleeds daily and it’s very uncomfortable.
The area is in the middle of my breast bone and all clothes rub against it, again making it bleed and I’ve been advised it should not be covered.
I had a BCC removed from my nose 7 years ago which seems like nothing compared to this cream treatment.
Has anyone else experienced what I am and how have you dealt with it?

  • I haven't personally as I have had surgery to remove mine but 2 friends were on this cream and have had to stop it as causing them too much pain and distress and are awaiting a consultation with their consultant.  I was hoping I would get this cream and not surgery, but have heard bad reports I was glad I was told I couldn't have it for my cancer.  I would speak to your consultant before using anymore. Good luck and keep in touch

Hi thanks for taking the time to reply. I’m not under a consultant this time just the local GP. After getting in touch with them and explaining the pain and bleeding, I was informed “well we told you it would get worse before it gets better”. And oh yes take paracetamol for the pain. Not a great deal of help when it bleeds daily!
I was just reaching out to see if anyone else was using it and their experience. Looks as though something I’ll have to put up with.

  • from what I have heard from people who have persevered with the cream it really does work and you are left with really smooth cancer free skin. Try it for a bit longer and see if you can cope. It is better than an operation, well I thought it was.  How did you cope with the one that was operated on, did you have skin graft or skin flap.

Thanks I am persevering with it and hope it’s all worth it. I struggled with my first surgery as was left with an open wound which made me feel very self conscious. Then not enough margin was taken and I had to have further surgery. The second time it was stitched with no grafts. Left with a slightly misshapen nose now.
