I have just been diagnosed with a BCC on my scalp, that was misdiagnosed numerous times by my GP as sebborheic dermatitis. I have had it for 4 years and the visible lesion is 2.5cm - does anyone know how big it might be under the surface. I am reading a lot of scary stuff about it being the tip of the iceberg. When people post on here about the size of the tumour, do you mean how big it looked on the surface or how big it was when cut out? I am hoping to get MOHS surgery - any idea how much they will cut out?
Hi its Harlyn again, The area of my skin flap which I assume is about the size of what they cut out is just slightly bigger than the actual cancer, with the added margins to get healthy skin. Mine is feeling very tight and uncomfortable this morning. Just doing some facial exercises and massaging. MOHS surgery takes less from around the actual site wheres n ormal surgery takes the advised amount. I opted for nornal surgery as opposed to MOHS as I had t0 go to Notti ngham for it and my lovely plastic surgeon wouldn't have done it but would have done the reconstruction, They take smaller margins and you have t0 wait whilst they test it and if they haven't taken enough they have to take more until they get a healthy result. I can understand how you feel ss think we are all like this at the start of things. The more I hear the more people have it or getting it at the moment. Don#t know about you but I wasn't a sun worshipper and always used sun cream.
Thanks that's somewhat reassuring. I am the opposite of a sun worshipper. Don't go out in the midday sun, didn't have foreign holidays as a child, always wore hat and sunscreen, never sun bathed in my life. I can't think why I got one on my scalp. I did go through something horribly stressful 4 years ago and that's when it started though. Was yours nodular or infiltrating?
I am like you too never been on foreign holidays just go to Cornwall and always wear high protection cream and renew it all day long. We have coffee in the garden in the morning and never go out again until after 5.30 when the sun has moved around the front of the house. Mine was nodular what is the difference as wasn't told. All I was told is that the cream wouyldn't work, it was either surgery or radiotherapy and felt I was too young for that. He said will save thjat for when you are 102 !!! Keep me posted as to how you go on and I will let you know how I am too
