Has anyone had a facial skin flat that didn't work. If so what were the signs and how was it dealt with. I am concerned that my skin flap I had 5 weeks ago doesn't look right. It is very raised from my other skin. It is near my nostril at the side on my face. I don't know if it will flatten in time or if something is wrong. Thank you
Hi Harlyn,
I am sorry to hear that you continue to be concerned about how your flap is healing.
As I mentioned in reply to another of your posts, I've had a few skin grafts using skin taken from the collar bone area. Two grafts on my cheek took very well. However, two small skin grafts on my nose did not take. The skin went black on the surface and did not adhere to the new site. It was very obvious that the grafts had not taken. They were near the tip and at the side of my nose.
As for how it was dealt with, I had to keep the dressing on much longer than if the grafts had taken. The skin underneath the failed graft slowly reformed but left dents.
Your worry is that the skin is raised. If the colour is good, the edges healed and any swelling or bruising around the site resolved, you are in a pretty good place. Five weeks is early days. It will take a few months to settle but you will need to massage it to get the best results.
I hope this helps to reassure you.
Take care
Miranda
