I need some advice please. I’ve had 2 Basel cell carcinomas, 1 was extremely hard to recover from and I’ve been reading about bcc and HRT.

Im post menopausal and have been put on a body identical HRT to help with various things. Please can anyone point me in the right direction of who knows if there is an increased risk of skin cancer from this type of HRT. I have asked my GP to research it and have emailed my dermatologist. I’m not sure if there is any proper data anywhere.

Thanks.

  • Hi ,

I've had several BCCs and no doctor has ever asked me whether I was taking HRT. I've never heard that there might be a connection. By the time HRT is being prescribed, most women are in their 50s and in the age group where skin cancers are more likely to occur.

Do let us know if you find out any more.

In what way was recovery difficult? Getting adequate margins? Wound healing? One of my BCC sites took several months to close over completely. I think the recovery depends a lot on the location of the surgery.

I hope that you have put your BCC story behind you at this point.

    Take care

    Hi Miranda2,

a long story but i had a bcc on my head that i had to have privately removed by MOHs surgery after incomplete surgery done by straight excision on nhs. It wouldn’t heal because they left the cancer in with no margins. It’s been horrific. Since then I’ve had another on my leg and have 2 more that my GP thinks are melanomas.

There is some controversial information about a link with HRT but I’ve only just started taking it in the last 4 days so cannot blame what I have had now on it obviously.  The studies seem to be ambiguous at best.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi

Poor you. That BCC on your head was truly a nightmare.

Are you getting any follow up for the suspected melanomas? Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is not melanoma after all.

    Best wishes to you too

As I cannot afford more private surgery my GP is doing 14 day referral. I just hope I don’t get the same consultant!
