Hi All,
I have an unusual story so I wanted to share AND I am still waiting my path results so, maybe it could be nothing at all.
However about 7 years ago I noticed a blueish hue patch on my shoulder in between that and my neck, it seemed odd and I had a surgeon look, he didn't give me much info but said it should be fine, possibly blood under the skin ext.
fast-forward to 2020, its been on my mind a lot lately and seemed a little darker in color. Sometimes I wonder if its in your head when you worry about stuff though and its not changing but you felt it was. My coworkers and friends noticed it as well, did agree it seemed darker and possibly SLIGHTLY larger. I went into a NP who used to work in a dermatology only office, and she took one look and told me her thoughts and wanted two punch biopsies done and what I should expect if she's correct.
My question is, has anyone been diagnoses with LMM and it was not the traditional photos you find online? Mine is more like I said Blue/gray in color, slightly darker towards one edge, nothing that screams WHAT IS THAT but once you notice you say, thats not normal..... I did have some slight swelling in the region as well and some lymph nodes in the clavicle region are swollen.
She did mention this is slow growing and can be had for many years, and usually prognosis is good. I guess I just have had a hard time thinking she could be right since it does not resemble a lot of other photos.
Thanks!
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you're currently waiting for the results of a biopsy on an area of your skin that your dermatologist thinks might be lentigo maligna melanoma. Waiting for results can be very stressful and it's natural to try and find other people who have had the same symptoms as yourself.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join and post your question in the melanoma group. If you'd like to do this then clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.
How long have you been told that it should be before you get your results?

Thank you! I joined and did that now, I have a follow up on the 11th to remove the sutures and she mentioned going over results then when I got the biopsies done but, they should be back by tomorrow I was hoping, the pathology place has just been a little behind and im not sure she will call to let me know if they come back before the appt or not.
It's difficult to know whether your consultant will give you the results when they're back tomorrow or whether you'll have to wait until next week. Whichever happens, do come back and let us know how you get on.

Just had a Lentigo Maligna ( not yet melanoma I hope and pray) because they have said that it's was not yet gone too deep. But it did not look at all like anything Iv'e seen on the photo's online.. It was just a pink/Red flat patch on my cheek, about 1"x 3/4" at most. The annoying thing is that 3 years ago I had it checked by a specialist NHS dermatologist, and was told it was nothing to worry about. So now it turns out that that was not correct, and I have had surgery which has left me with a 3" vertical wound/ scar on my left cheek, and I can't stop crying. Even worse, is that I look like Iv'e had a facelift, but only on one side of my face, so the lines round my mouth on the left have been pulled up and gone, but still droopy on the other side., My husband doesn't really understand and keeps asking why I'm crying, but the fact that he even has to ask why, just makes my cry even more. So the upshot is I'm still waiting for the historology report, but with the amount of skin they have taken I bloody well hope that they got it all. Trying Manuka Honey on the wound and scar at the moment, but my nurse has said that the top under my eye is healed enough to leave a dressing off, whereas the bottom half is still under a dressing 24/7. So Manuka on all at night then top half exposed daytime and using Bio Oil on that. Also bought some Mederma Plus to use once its all healed, and some silicone plasters for the nighttime.
This whole process from diagnosis, biopsy to surgery has been so quick, about 4-6 weeks in all, but only happened at all because I consulted a private clinic to see if it was possible to improve the patch,( which I had been told was nothing to worry about,) by laser, and when they saw the photo's, they told me to go straight back to my NHS doctor for a referral within 2 weeks. If I had not been so vane as to consult with that private clinic, then no doubt this would have turned into a Lentigo Maligna Melinoma, and been more invasive. So thank YOU NHS!!
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently had a lentigo maligna removed from your face. Were you given a likely time frame for your results?
It's perfectly natural to be feel as you do when you're waiting for your results. I doubt there's anyone in the group who hasn't felt tearful at times. Try not to be too hard on yourself and occupy yourself with doing things that you enjoy while waiting for your results.
It's also very early days after your surgery. You haven't said when you had it done but I'm guessing probably only a week or so ago as you still have a dressing on part of the wound. You'll be amazed how much better your face will look after the swelling has gone down and the scar has healed. If you have a look through a few of the older posts in this group you'll find accounts of people who were once worried about a scar on their face and now report that it's barely noticeable.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
