Good morning
new to this community, 2 months ago noticed mole started to elevate to dome shape , made an appointment with gp but they said it wasn’t nothing sinister but she would refer me to another gp with dermo experience at the end of January. Kept a close eye on it as it started to get higher bigger and changing colour also has a surrounding border. Got really worried so paid to see a private dermatologist and he took one look , needs to come off ,will have it done this week. Mole has changing colour border now with the nodule black in colour but has flattened out so not dome shaped. Getting really worried that it will be melonoma and it’s going to be aggressive form. Has anyone had this or felt these worries.
Thanks for reading
Hi 46 male and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you are having a mole removed this week and it's natural to worry that it will be melanoma. You might like to join us in the melanoma group where you'll find others who are at the same stage as yourself.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I was diagnosed with melanoma 3 years ago so I do understand how you feel. However there are plenty of people who have been where you are, worried that they have melanoma, and then come back with the good news that the mole was benign.
When you go for your excision ask how long the results are currently taking. They can take anywhere between 2-8 weeks, depending on how busy the path labs are, with most coming back around the 4 week mark. You're bound to worry during this time so you'll need to find a way of distracting yourself from the what ifs. Some people swear by mindfulness, I indulged my hobbies, while others throw themselves into their work or spring cleaning the house!
One thing that you should definitely do is STAY AWAY FROM GOOGLE as so much information about melanoma on the internet is way out of date. If you want to know more then stick to reputable sites like this one or Cancer Research UK.
Do come back and let us know the results of your biopsy.
