Facial Lesions

Hope I am not posting here in error, just would appreciate some advice.  I have been dx with 2 BCC areas on scar tissue on my jaw as BCC infiltrating lesions.. I had this scraped 20 years ago but it never healed keeps bleeding, weeping and scabbing, but back then was a much smaller singular lesion.

I ignored it but went to GP recently about 2 other skin lesions on my face - one that looks bit like a raised wart (pale/bleeding/crusty) and another larger raised area of pale dry skin (darkish underneath) 14mm in size, had both these many years.

Now seen a dermatologist and the 2 areas on jaw will be excised (dx as infiltrating BCCs). The other 2 are thought to be seborreic keratosis and hypetrophic AK and will be curretted.  At the moment I am also using Picato gel on three other AK areas on my face/hairline.

Can see I am not as seriously affected as some here, but would be grateful to hear from anyone in similar situation. Bit confused as to the varied dx's.   No clue as to when anything will be done, expect the waiting list is long. Thanks.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I haven't had the same skin conditions as yourself but I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you to the group.

It is certainly possible to have lots of different diagnoses at the same time. Is there anything in particular you're confused about and someone here might be able to share their experience?

While you're waiting for replies you could take a look through posts on here to read about other people's experiences.

Do come back and let us know when you have your date through.

  • Hello latchbrook and thank you for the welcome.

I have done as you suggested and searched "infiltrating" here and have found some answers - or maybe more questions !  It does sound a bit more complicated than I hoped, but I'll just have to wait and see how it will all be dealt with.   Thanks.  j x.

  • Can anyone here tell me how long after diagnosis of infiltrating BCC they had a biopsy to confirm?

Was a biopsy mentioned at the 1st consultation ?

I saw a dermatologist on 1st Oct who gave me a diagnosis but nothing was mentioned about a biopsy then nor have I heard anything since.  I do understand there is no rush with this, but would be glad to hear of other posters experience.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to see that you don't yet know what your next step is. You could ring your consultant's secretary and ask her to have a look at your notes to see what's planned and when.

It would probably be best to start a new discussion asking your question about whether a biopsy had been mentioned at other people's initial consultation as more people are likely to see your question then.

    Hi Joannabee,

I’ve just had treatment for x2 infiltrating bcc but only had diagnoses after x2 punch biopsy, they were on my nose, I had urgent referral to derm seen within 2 weeks, then referral to plastics, that came quickly because I pestered them, I then needed referral to a MOHs surgeon which should have been an urgent referral, but secretary didn’t type clinic letter for over a month, I complained and it was done but I was then given 2 month appointment, I was not prepared to wait so I paid privately to see MOHs surgeon, he then put me on nhs waiting list, he told me it would be months waiting as there are only 2 people doing this type of surgery, I then got a letter for just a nine week wait, I then had MOHs, then the next day a forehead flap, then separation 4 weeks later, whole process took 5 months, my advice is to keep at them,  bcc is a slow growing cancer but infiltrating is higher risk but still slow growing, you don’t say we’re bcc is, nose and around the eye area seem to get treated more quickly,

    good luck

  • @ Frankie 1.  You are a star for responding, thank you.  I've followed your journey on your posts as I have for all here, and healing thoughts with all.

My infiltrating bcc (2 of them close together) begin at the bottom of ear lobe and onto jaw line.  Then a gap and another below also on jaw/cheek. Lesions have been there for over 20 years and were curetted then but never disappeared just scabbing and bleeding since.

I just don't know how things progress hence my question.  Had a quick appt with dermo and since it is all new to me didn't ask questions, but I've seen his letter to GP.

These 2 bcc are on scar tissue that was been irradiated years ago, so thinking MOHs surgery seems possible from what I've read, but just guessing here.  Gone as far as checking there is a MOHs specialist at the hospital as like to be informed !

You had such a long wait so I am expecting the same on the NHS, but understand a bit more from your reply.  Thanks so much.  j x

  • Just to say taking advice here  I did phone dermo's secretary to be told it is an 18 week wait (which will be end Jan at the earliest).  No more informed as to whether all 4 lesions will be treated together or if MOHs considered for the 2 infiltrating ones as she had no further knowledge from my notes.

Just have to wait and see, we are all in the same boat.  Hope all well with everyone, best wishes  j x
