Has anyone unfortunately had any form of nerve damage after the removal of BCC in the site of the operation?. I would be interested to know how and if this was rectified
thanks
Hi
After I'd had an excision to remove a suspicious lesion I didn't have any problem with loss of feeling in my arm. However, when I then had to have a much larger follow-up excision and also a sentinel lymph node biopsy I did lose the feeling in both wound sites. When I touched the areas I could feel that I was touching them but they felt numb and like they didn't belong to me.
My skin cancer nurse specialist advised me to massage the areas every day to teach the skin to feel again. I did this and gradually the sensations in my arm and armpit did return, although it took a long time.
Are you having problems with this then?
Hi again, things have moved on from my last post I got a call from the DMC clinic yesterday that removed my BCC asking me to make an appointment to discuss my results and further treatment, they won tell me what that treatment is or anything else. Obviously I am now deeply worried as since the stitches were removed 9 weeks ago I’ve had nothing but problems in that area, burning hot feeling, GP
aid virus?? Bloods taken no Myeloma found in urine test and referred me back to dermatology at St. George’s on 17th but now this call out of the blue stating further treatment. My glands are slightl
swollen in neck and hot patches under arms and ground I am fearing the worst that this has spread
Hi
I'm sorry to hear how worried you sound. I agree that it's horrible when you get an appointment that you're not expecting and, of course, the appointment clinic won't tell you what the consultant wants to see you for. One thought, have they simply brought your appointment that was later this month forward or do you still have that appointment?
It's natural to worry that the further treatment is because your BCC has spread and you wouldn't be normal if you didn't think that. However, I'm sure you're very aware that BCCs very rarely spread. Have you got a date to go to the DMC clinic? I'm hoping that it's in the next few days so you won't have too long to wait.

No my appointment for demertology was made by my Gp because of the hot patches and pain I was feeling on the site of the bcc, she thought virus that’s why she referred me. The appointment tomorrow was the actual clinic that removed the bcc, originally that clinic said I wouldn’t need to return or have further treatment
Let me know when you have a date for the DMC clinic and, easier said than done, try not to worry.

I'll be keeping everything crossed for you

How did it go today ?
Hi Latchbrook, well I’ve had my appointment, been told I have Bowens disease, they stated they got all the cancer on my sternum, which is great, regular checks with my GP and 50 factor suncream always. So after reading about Bowens it was a SCC I had and not a BCC...
. I read the spread of SCC is more common so hoping this has not happened with my 8 week of a burning sternum and swollen glands, I’m sure the dermatologist I saw today (who removed the carcinoma) wouldn’t have said they got all the cancer if it may have spread... she did say she couldn’t comment about this current issue so I guess I shall just wait until next Wednesday & Friday for my haematologist and dermatologist to look into it. I am a little relieved after today but still a worry, let’s hope it’s something and nothing. Thanks for your support x
Oh I forgot she also said absolutely would be no nerve damage after removal of carcinoma!
