Does Basal Cell in the Bones cause pain?

Quick question, as I await surgery etc, which will be scheduled next week, I am dealing with some discomfort on the infiltrative basal cell on my nose. Mostly, it feels like it is the surface of the skin itself, and lotion generally helps a bit. It doesn't feel like it is below the surface of the skin, so this isn't a particular worry (yet, anyway). But it did make me curious.

It got my brain going, however, and I wondered if during the rare occasions basal cell does enter the localized bones and other tissue, does it cause pain in those areas? Do bones affected by basal cell cause discomfort, or does it go completely unknown until they do mohs?  Are there scans (CT or MRI maybe?) that can detect bone eaten by basal cell?

Also, for those who have had mohs, how deep do moh's surgeons go before turning it over to plastic surgeons etc? Do they treat bone and cartilage at all?

  • Morning

I can't recall anyone here ever mentioning having pain in their bones because of BCC and I've also put 'bone' in the search bar and not come up with any posts that mention pain.

This might be a good question to post in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will respond within 2 working days.

Thanks a ton for the response. Honestly, I was in a pretty deep anxiety spiral. I am sort of back at the wheel now, and getting it together.

    Hi MNJim

I am also waiting for MOHs scheduled for 1/10/19, I also have infiltrating bcc had 2x punch biopsy on my nose. Both back with the same bcc, I am also terrified of how far it has spread, as one is on tip of my nose and one further up, I fully understand your worry about spreading to bones, I too worry if it’s spread, but from the research I’ve done it’s almost impossible but there have been one or two cases but that was in untreated cases, I already know am having a forehead flap and full reconstruction with plastics, I am dreading the day it starts and it’s on our faces am a girl but am sure it’s the same for guys. I’ve looked at so many pictures and it’s awful post surgery but once reconstruction done it’s amazing, plastics are amazing surgeons , who only want the best for us, am sure you can ask for ct scan or if you can get it privately, I really understand what your feeling as am the same, but try and be positive, hope you get on well next week, keep us updated and just remember all that your feeling is normal,

    good luck

Thanks so much for sharing! I have a week or so before mine will be scheduled, when it is it will likely happen pretty shortly after. I live in a fortunate area in that we are a small rural area, but have a new, excellent MOHs surgeon who is enourmously skilled. I feel lucky to have her and not have to travel far.

Anyway, I am fully ready to have reconstructive surgery, honestly, I am no peach in the looks department, and a scar or two might make look like a tough guy. Can only help, really. ;)

Let's stay in touch, love to hear how your experience goes!

Just remember that’s normal, sometimes I wish I could just run away and pretend it’s not happening, then I just focus on the other good stuff I have in my life,

take care message any time and keep me posted

    Hi

I have a lesion on the bridge of my nose and have been experiencing a pressure-type feeling in my sinus on the same side. I wondered if you got an answer to your question about bone pain at all? I have been advised that if the cancer has spread to the bone I will need radiotherapy but won't know anything (including what type of cancer I have) until surgery day (or possibly later). The waiting is really taking its toll

Do you have a date for your surgery yet? Mine is in 6 days time.

    Hi Bambilegs,

Good luck for your surgery, not long to wait mine Tuesday, I too have sinus pain and the same thought had crossed my mind, but in reality I do suffer from sinus issues any way, Try and keep hold of the fact that it is very rare for it to spread to bone, this waiting is the worst bit now,
In running around like a lunatic, getting the houses sorted etc, so many emotions, try and stay positive as hard as it is,

    take care
