ive had this spot on the side of my back, kind of where my “love handles” are. It was darker before and bled when I picked at it. It’s been scabbing for 10 days but I pick the scab off every day or so. Today it looks like this. Any idea what it could be? Or what it looks like? I’m freaking out about it.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

It can be worrying when you notice a change to your skin but the only person who can diagnose it is your GP. If he or she isn't sure what it is you will be referred to a dermatologist so that they can take a closer look and perform a biopsy if necessary. In the meantime please do not continue to pick the scab off it as you're not giving it the chance to heal.

Do come back and let us know what your GP says.

Thank you so much for the reply! I have been to two different doctors who have both said “infected pimple”  and won’t refer me to a dermatologist! I’m having trouble believing something that looks like this could just be a pimple. I guess I will try another doctor to get a referral.

  • Sometimes these things really are just infected pimples . If you look at my profile you will see that I had melanoma and at one point I was worried about a spot that appeared at the end of my sentinel lymph node biopsy scar. My consultant said it was an infected pimple and, after applying the cream I was prescribed for the stated length of time, it went and he was right.

I'm not medically qualified but I think you need to use whatever cream you have been prescribed, if you have, and most of all STOP picking the scab off it or it will never heal!

By all means go back to your GP if it doesn't heal but you need to give it a chance to do that.

  • Hi

I hope you're well and I was wondering if your 'spot' had cleared up yet or if you've needed to go back to your GP?
