Hi everyone
I am new here but wanted to ask a question about Aldara cream.
I have had surgery for 2 Basal cell carcinomas, and Picato cream for sun damage on my nose.
Recently my dermatologist treated a further 3 lesions with cryotherapy to be followed 2 weeks later by a 6 week course of Imiquomod /Aldara cream. 5 days on then 2 days off.
My doctor advised me of the side effects and although not pretty, the eruptions would show it was working.
I am now into week 3 and absolutely nothing has happened. No reddening, irritation or inflammation of any kind, it could be moisturiser.
Should some sort of reaction have happened by now? Is there any point in continuing if it’s not doing anything?
I don’t have a follow up appointment until August.
Basically has anyone else used this cream and had no reaction ?
Many thanks
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I did respond to you on the other thread but just wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you to the group.

Hi
I was just wondering how you were getting on with the Aldara cream?
I know that you were worried that because your skin wasn't reacting to it that it wasn't working. How have things been since you posted a month ago?

Hi
I still got no reaction at all so I gave up 4.5 weeks in. Seemed pointless.
thanks for your interest x

Did you tell your dermatologist that the cream hasn't been effective ? Another cream that can be used is called 5-FU.

Hi
I called his secretary around the 3 week mark , she spoke to him and he said to continue with it.
I don’t see him again til August. The spots I was treating look a bit better though .
thanks x
If the BCCs are looking better it's a shame you've stopped using the cream as maybe it was working without causing the usual side effects. As you know BCCs will not get better on their own only worse.
Let us know how you get on when you have your appointment in August.

Hi
Do you think I should resume treatment for the next couple of weeks or have I blown it because I stopped? X
Although I'm not medically trained, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't resume it. Some people have an extreme reaction to it and have to stop applying it every so often to allow their skin to calm down again. Just don't apply it for longer in total than you were originally told. You could also give the consultant's secretary a call to ask for advice on this if you wanted to.

Hello Gillie
I thought I would join the conversation as I used Aldara for 4.5 months last year. My initial round of treatment was for 60 days but I had to keep stopping as I had a severe reaction to the cream. Despite having several breaks, and me wanting to stop using the cream, my consultant wanted me to use the cream for the 60 days worth of treatment as prescribed. I am not at all medically minded but going from my experience, I would complete the entire course but of course that is up to you!
All the best.
