I had my surgery yesterday under local anaesthetic to remove bcc from the bridge of my nose. He took 3mm margins and rotated skin from my forehead to cover wound.

I had 19 stitches and it's all covered in tape now. I'm swollen and I think I will get bruising. My right eye that was closest to site is also swollen. And obviously it's all a bit sore.

I've not seen the wound yet. I'm due to have it checked at doctors tomorrow and stitches come out on 18th. Back to see surgeon 6-8 weeks time

and  i see you have recently had this procedure and if anyone else has, it would be good to hear from you too. Didnt really get told healing times or what to expect. I sort of forgot to ask!!! Was do focussed on it just happening didnt really think about after.

Thanks in advance

    Dear Helen

I had a different procedure to you but had to have a mole removed on my face, with stitches etc.  I will be honest with you, I was quite shocked to see the result a week after the operation as my face was swollen and very bruised.  BUT my skin healed very quickly and a year down the line you really can't see anything.  I don't even notice the very slight scar I have.  So, if you are a bit surprised when they remove the dressing, please just try and hold onto the bigger picture as your skin will heal, it's just a case of giving it a bit of time.

    Good luck.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. I'm just glad it done. No more worrying. And I dont look as bad as I'd imagined anyhow so that's a good starting point!!

    Hi

Just saw saw your message in my junk box.  My BCC was middle way on the right hand side of my nose.  My flap was taken from under my eye at the side to the bottom of my nose.  I had stitches ...not sure how many...on the flap and the side of the nose.  At first the flap was very puffy.  It is starting to flatten and almost normal colour.  You can still see the stitches at the side of my nose and on my nose.  With a little bit of make up it’s hard to see unless I point it out.  Mine was done at a clinic and I was awake.  My surgeon said he could fix any scars at 4 months.  I’m 75 and with the extra skin removed I actually have a bit of a facelift.  I was horrified right after the surgery as my eyes were bruised and my face was red and swollen.  When I wake up in the morning it’s still a little puffy.   I did get an infection at about 3 weeks.  I had a bump on my nose the size of a blueberry and my face was all red.  I was on strong antibiotics for a week.

My surgeon didn’t give me any time lines but he was very pleased at  the 2 week appointment.  I see him again in 2 weeks.  I’m in Canada FYI.

    Hi

    Thanks for replying.

Im 3 weeks post surgery now. Im getting a lot of pressure headaches in the area and the flap part is really raised and feels odd!

Although im sure this is all part of the healing process and it looks so much better than i imagined it would.

    Hi Helen,

I’ve never had headaches with the surgery.  My flap is still raised and feels odd.  Im supposed to massage it but it feels weird and a the skin is much softer than the other skin on my nose.  Most people don’t notice it.

    Hi

The headaches are easing slightly now. I had a quick appointment with a wounds/dressings clinic on Tuesday as i was worried.

She could see where it was lumpy and raised and said when i massage it apply pressure to try and flatten it. She also gave me some silicone scar gel to apply, so hoping this will help with the actual scar appearance.

But like you say, most people don't really notice and if they do they are too polite to ask!!!
