Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with a BCC on the bridge of my nose, quite near my eye. Although my local hospital doesn't offer Mohs surgery, and didn't mention it, considering the position of my BCC, I am now wondering if Mohs surgery might be the better option for me. I would like to hear about other people's experience of Mohs surgery, and the hospitals and specialists who offer this type of surgery.

  • Infiltrative BCC on end of nose followed by forehead flap.  Irshad Zaki at Solihull did my Mohs and was excellent.

  • Was this NHS or private? Did the surgeon do both the Mohs and the reconstruction?

  • Thank you. I completely agree. Why do the drs seem to think these things are fairly minor and don't need treating quickly? My biopsy alone required 4 stitches, took 3 weeks to heal and has left a horrible dent in my nose, with the original lesion still very present. The actual op when they get round to doing it will be pretty major, and like yours will require a lot of stitches. I am still waiting for an appointment with surgeon. May I ask where your clinic was, and if they did the mohs and reconstruction in one go?

  • I totally agree, drs appear to think they do not need treating quickly for some reason.

I was seen by NHS who advised an approx wait being september, still waiting, i rang up and was told at least January 26!

I had mohs surgery and reconstruction at the same time, The clinic is based in Burnley, Lancashirw. Dr Arif Aslam, i highly recommend him, all done in the same day. Even now he advises me if i have any questions etc, as my gp would not have a clue. Its called Discover Laser the clinic.

Hope you can get sorted, i felt so anxious.

  • Hi i had mohs surgery to remove an i inflitrative bcc on my face but was under my eye.

I paid privately couldnt wait for nhs.id still be waiting.

The clinic is in burnley, the dermatologist was so lovely explained everything to me..highly recommended. I can give his details if you require. I was advised mohs surgery was better than excision because of the position of my bcc.

    Best wishes

  • THank you. I had found this surgery online whilst searching for any information I could. Sadly it's literally the other end of the country to me, but I'll defiitely bear in mind. How long was it between contating Mr Aslam and the op happening?

  • Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with surgery as you said it was at beginning of November. I've just seen an NHS Mohs surgeon. She outlined the plan (terrifying) and hopes to get me in as a priority before Christmas, or else January. Sounds like it'll take about 6 weeks to get to the point of dressings off and out and about again.Let me know how you get on.

  • Thanks it was yesterday. I was lucky to have a smaller incision repair than I anticipated. Only one pass at mohs although he did go down into the muscle.

I had a local advancement flap from the cheek to the nose.

Sounds like you are being dealt with quickly now which is good news. good luck with what sounds like quite a big op for you

  • That's great news, I'm sure it will heal quickly and so glad it was better than anticipated.

  • Hi

From seeing Dr Aslam i had mohs surgery 7 days later. I pre booked it with his secretary before my consultation. His reviews on doctify made my mind up.
