In 2018 a large lesion appeared on my calf I saw a dermatologist who diagnosed a benign Lesion called junctions naevus, and told me not to worry about it, he performed a punch biopsy to diagnose but did not remove the whole lesion. I’ve gotten used to it being on my leg and honestly I never gave it much thought. I noticed it was becoming slightly raised and itchy and when my GP saw it she appeared quite shocked and said she would “ red flag” a referral to dermatology. The NHS waiting list even for urgent referrals is horrendous here so contacted skin analytics online who diagnosed a Basel Cell Carcinoma, I have booked a private appointment with a dermatologist on 13th June and I’ve been told by her secretary that she will remove the lesion at that appointment for diagnostic testing and pathology. My GP measured the lesion as 37mmX 26mm. The dermatologist has none of these details so I’m worried that when she actually sees it she won’t be able to remove it so quickly. I’ve been reading ( Dr Google) about large excisions and skin graphs and to be honest I’ve really scared myself. I’ve now no idea what to expect in terms of treatment, maybe I jumped the gun going privately (my sister volunteered to pay for it) maybe I should have just waited on the NHS. If anyone has experienced anything similar I would appreciate hearing about your experience.
