Hi,
I’ve recently had a mole removed from my back (7 days ago) and pictures of other various moles sent away. Just received a phonecall from my medical practice saying the doctor wants a telephone appointment with me a week from today. Receptionist was unable to tell me my results or if it was bad news or not.
Would they leave it that long to call if it was cancerous? Just unsure as to why they can’t tell me and why the doctor is phoning.
Bit worried, hopefully worrying for nothing.
Has anyone had a diagnosis over the phone and was made to wait for a phonecall?
thanks
Hi joe
it is worrying to wait . I was told my results would come back between 2-10 weeks and came back before 2 weeks. I didn’t get a phone call but another week a letter to say it was Basel cell carcinoma and some information and to say they would send a follow up appointment still waiting. I should say I looked at my Gp records on NHS app and saw the letter a week before they sent it to me. If you have the app take a chance and hope it’s not bad news but maybe better to be prepared .good luck x
Hi Grace,
Thanks for that, hopefully you get your follow up appointment soon and get things sorted.
Unfortunately in Scotland we can’t access our records through the nhs app, for some reason it’s different here. I might just need to hang on till they phone next week .
yeah I’m preparing for the worst, don’t know of any other reason they would phone , hopefully I’m wrong.
no matter what the outcome is it’s not great the way they leave you hanging on waiting, surely the receptionist who phoned could’ve told me if it was nothing to worry about.
anywsy thanks for the reply and hope all goes well for you.
I have bcc on my nose. I was sent to dermatology in March for photos. Told wanted further investigations and referred to plastic surgeons. Biopsy in June. Results end September still waiting for removal was told 16 weeks so should be anytime soon. Going to chase but have cough at moment so need to get rid of that before can have removal. So will ring next week if feel better. A very long process for me but I suppose depends where you live. I am in Essex. Its very annoying like being in limbo.
Hi Joe147 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with melanoma 8 years ago so I know how hard waiting for treatment, tests and results can be.
Currently most results for suspicious skin lesions are taking between 4-8 weeks, mine was 6 weeks, so to get yours 7 days after your biopsy is exceptionally fast not slow!Hi Bearcarer
iknow exactly how you feel. I had photos and phone consult with a surgeon in March. Punch biopsy in July and saw plastic surgeon in August. Was told the bcc on my nose tip is large and deep and would need surgery and skin graft in the very near future. Still waiting unfortunately. They did ring 6 weeks ago to offer me a date but then retracted it because it needs to be done in an operating theatre and none scheduled for my sort of problem. I feel like I can’t plan anything as I need to get this sorted especially as I am now experiencing pain all over my nose. Hopefully we will both be seen soon. I just wanted to support you in your frustration
Yes very annoying. I am going to ring up my plastic surgeons secretary this week. See whst they say. Though have a bit of a cough. Bad timing as usual. Not sure what to say. Never good on the phone. Anyway thanks for replying. Fingers crossed we both won't have much longer wait .
Very annoying x I had a strange response to my query to my consultant’s secretary x it turns out my consultant has been off for 2 months and it’s not known when he will return. They asked if there is any change and when I said yes they asked if I would like to be put on another surgeons list I will let you know if there’s any progress.
