Does anyone know the difference between nodular and infiltrating BCC's.I heard the surgeon when he was asked if what mine was was nodular or infiltrating and he replied nodular.I have been on here reading everything since I am very afraid.I am dreading Sept 19 when I go to have it done.I have learned so much here.It is a wonderful community
Hi Ritaann No I would be interested in this too. I know the one near my nostril was nodular as dermatologist referred me to plastic surgeon and I had a copy of the letter he sent, and he said a nodular bcc. The one near my eye the plastic surgeon just dealt with that one after he had done the other so not sure. I think infiltraing are slighly worse as they infiltrate into further layers but I am not sure. Mine looked nodular as it lookled like a rounded currant. xx
The surgeon told me that nodular are less likely to come back but infiltrating more likely. That's why it's important to take a wide margin
Hi ritaan
I've just read your profile. Mine was on the side of my nose and was also told that the nose can be awkward as there's not much laxity in the skin so they can't always suture side to side and this is why they use flaps and skin graphs.
All of us on here understand how stressful this is so please feel free to ask us anything.
My wound was left to heal by secondary intention but I think you get a better cosmetic result by using flaps or a graft
Hi Puckettyboo
Thanks for replying.I believe it would be better to heal by secondary intention. That way only one place to heal, not two.(graph site and nose. But Im trusting the doc,and he says whats to be done.I have been reading everything I can about the surgery. The dr said I would have a pressure bandage for a week.I dont know if I will have any stitches or not.He said I would look like rudolph the red nose reindeer for awhile lol only my bandage would be brown.I have read if you take arnica and bromelin that you would have less bruising and swelling.Thats just what I have read (not told so by dr).I may try it.
Hi rittaan
It will be swollen and not look good to start with but the skin has an amazing ability to heal. It really does. You'll be surprised how well it heals and the end outcome.
Just follow the surgeons advice. Also, a healthy diet to promote healing is important.

Are pressure dressings sewed on, or glued etc.I forgot to ask how they will stay on.
Hi Ritaann Just got your friend request I will look some pics out and show you one of my pressure dressing. Yes mine was stitched. It was like a tiny blue scourer, the surgeon said I looked like I had a blue bumble bee on my face. Most of the stitches were internal ones and the a small dressing and this scourer stitched on top. It is to try and keep the graft flat so it cant come off. Sounds horrendous but it isnt it was fine xx
