I just don't know where to turn or even where to start!

I'm so upset and anxious, I found out Monday through my gp health record app that my biopsy taken 22/03/23 is indeed squamous cell carcinoma.

Finding this out whilst trying to re-order a prescription through said app was soul destroying!

I haven't an appointment until 30/05 10 weeks after biopsy, I'm losing my mind with worry, and nobody seems to care!!

I've rang booking office trying to be seen sooner with no joy! I've tried to get 5 mins with a doctor or even an email and nothing, why am I being made to suffer until end of May before they see me? I have so many unanswered questions and this waiting is cruel.

I just feel invisible and so scared, I spotted the lesion almost a year ago, petrified it's spread.

  • Hiya I’ve just had my biopsy done last week. I discovered the NHS app and found out when my next appointment is for another mole I need removing a week before I got the actual letter! I’ve also been obsessively checking it for the answers to my first biopsy then thinking what an awful way to find out. So I can understand how scary it is to stumble across this information and then not be able to have questions answered for so long. I don’t think it should be on the app until you’ve been seen in person. Can you ring the drs first thing and get an appointment? I don’t know much about the types of cells as I’m trying my best not to google too much! But ask your questions on here and I’m sure someone will be able to have some answers. I’m at the very start of the journey having just had a mole removed and another due to be removed in June. Then the endless waiting for results which is the hardest. I suppose if it’s that serious they would call you in straight away rather than wait another month or so, positive vibes and fingers crossed.

  • Thank you for your reply, it wasn't easy finding out via an app.

I've rang up and glad I did as they said my appointment had been booked in error and has now been brought forward. However it hasn't made me feel any better. As I have no information other than the biopsy is positive and it's Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

The only thing I do know is I'll need more surgery as this was discussed at the biopsy appointment.

Thank you for your reply, I wish you well and hope you receive nothing but good news.

  • Hi Kate whereabouts is your lesion.  I have had 2 basal cell cancers removed from my face last year, one ny skin flap and the other after biopsy to confirm what it was by skin graft.  The procedures were done in clinic with local injections. I was very scared as never had anything done before and was 73.  It was ok took about one and ahalf hours. Lots of stiches (50) in skin graft one, which was the nastiest but I survived.  Had a brilliant plastic surgeon and the scars now after a year are barely visible.  I can understand your anxiety as I was just the same.  Mine were basal cell but gp was concerned that the first one may be squamous cell but it wasnt.  Skin cancers, whilst nasty, are curable, but you do need to be seen on the 2 week cancer pathway.  I was lucky and had mine done privately but the gp did offer me the 2 week cancer pathway at local NHS hospital.  Dematologist looked and wouldnt touch them and referred me then to a plastic surgeon due mainly to where they were on my face and said he wanted a good outcome achieving.  Please feel free to contact me again for any advice always happy to help as I know I was happy to receive advice.

  • My lower lip, no bigger than a butter bean etc, they removed most of it by biopsy on 22nd March, and it's already growing back Pensive I've had oral complaintsfor over a year now ans have had ent appointment and gastroscopy that came back satsifactory (inflammation but no obvious cause) that was last year but at start of this year things have gotten worse, I've had a sore throat on/off since August 2022 it's there solid.for a few weeks, gets better then is straight back etc and they can find no obvious reason for this other than inflammation they say caused by acid reflux.

I also have swallowing complaints, constant frog in my throat and am more aware of the conscious need to swallow hard to explain but it's like I have to remind myself.ro swallow at times and certain foods I avoid as they stick in throat etc

I've had patchy/dry lips for years now but last year the lesion started to appear and my gp fobbed me off saying it was cold sore but didn't resemble or even have typical cold sore symptoms,  so it was the dentist who referred me in the end. I had been on the waiting list for 2 years as they were so behind but ended up having emergency dental treatment, Good job she did refer me.

But now I feel like I'm still being dismissed, I found out Monday via my nhs app of all things that my biopsy result were positive for sqaumous cell carcinoma, no other details and when I rang gp got told its the hospital I have to go through snd the hospital have been useless, original appointment was booked for 30th May, I just cannot fathom how they expected me to wait that long. Its now been brought forward to the 9th May which is  million times better however I'm still in a place where I have no Information, and am.just expected to wait knowing I have cancer but not knowing staging/spread/margins etc
