Hi - I have had a recent BCC diagnosis on my scalp - quite worried as it has been there for at least 3 yrs - thought it was a spot until it grew but my GP dismissed it as a benign growth and nothing to worry about. It started to bleed a few months ago and doctor sent off some photos - then called me back to take photos with a dermascope - then sent me a text to say it had been diagnosed as a basal cell carcinoma.
Referred to local hospital but cannot get an appointment for ages and my GP said that BCC is not on a fast track cancer pathway in the NHS to be seen in 2weeks like other cancers in NICE guidelines as it is very slow growing in most cases.
so I went to a private clinic on Saturday and the Consultant confirmed it was a BCC and removed it partially - for biopsy - he says that he removed 75% of it but not all asI would need a skin graft and have a bald patch - so this way he will remove rest in 8 weeks when my skin has regrown / stretched ?? I think ? and not need a skin graft.
I am very worried and feeling a bit weepy .My GP seemed almost casual about it though !
I will get biopsy back in 2-6 weeks .Just wondering what the actual purpose of a biopsy or what else can be found out from the biopsy as the diagnosis has been made ? So a bit confused - well a lot confused ! Any advice / knowledge would be most welcome .

Hi,
I hope that you are recovering well and not in too much discomfort.
I had my initial appointment with the plastic surgeon on the 23rd. As I have two BCC’s within10cms of one another, the option including skin grafts would result in two large bald patches, and therefore difficult to disguise. So his plan is to do a much larger excision, around my head, which (if all goes well) will mean they should be able to bring the two sides of the wound together. Not absolutely sure if it will work, so may wake up with a skin graft after all, but it was his best suggestion, also would involve a general anaesthetic instead of the local sedation. Obviously I am not thrilled at the prospect of a much longer scar and the general, but if it means losing less hair then it seems to be the best option for me. Back on the waiting list now, for upto six months, then pre assessment and the op the following week. Home in the same day to recover. Trying to put it to the back of my mind right now and hope that it happens sooner rather than later.
Let me know how you’re going on, so hope things are now much improved.
Lots of love xx
Hi, Blue;)
So good to know you have a date set!
Mine was about 2.5 mm but the actual incision much larger, closing two flaps in a dual hatchet reconstruction, kind of like a pinwheel shape
The recovery wasn't so bad at all
Xoxoxo
Hi,
mines about the same and I’m going in for biopsy on Tuesday. They said they’ll keep taking skin if the lab next door confirms BCC so I don’t even know how big I’ll be cut until the day. I’m so worried, it’s near my inner eye, just under my eyebrow above my eyelid, all of which are really sensitive areas and I’m so scared I’ll end up like Quasimodo.
Is anyone able to send pictures of their recovery please xxxxx
Hi,
Things have progressed quite quickly and I am now due surgery on Friday 16th May, this coming Friday! The proposed procedure is a ‘wide excision BCC - left frontal scalp’! Under general anaesthetic which I wasn’t anticipating. Very anxious despite attempting to keep it all in perspective. I have shoulder length hair and feeling most anxious about the expected hair loss. I hope they wait until I am sedated to remove whatever they think is necessary.
I have plenty of support around me for aftercare and moral support, which I am definitely grateful for. I will keep you updated.
i hope you are continuing well with your healing. Would love to know how you are doing.
Lots of love
xxxxxxx
So glad you have a date! It will all be over before you know it
You will definitely be OUT, no worries there
Probably better, because I apparently talked ( using the choicest words from my vocabulary according to the surgeon- Oops!) when they gave me conscious/twilight sedation.
Hair is growing back. In it's current phase, most closely resembles a Chia Pet
Get ready for some extra TLC and rest and recovery!
I was anxious like you, but it really wasn't bad AT ALL. Most of my dental apointments trumped this procedure on the trauma meter.
Take care, and let us know how you get on
Big hugs for tomorrow!!!
Xoxoxoxo
Hope all goes well for tomorrow.
im recovering well but struggling with sore eyes and headaches especially with screen time even after 4 weeks!
my skin graft while not pretty is hidden behind my tinted glasses! I hope it improves with time.
will be thinking of you x
