Hi all,
I recently had a punch biopsy done on the side of my nose and awaiting results (6 weeks?) although it almost certainly looks like I've got some form of basal cell carcinoma (possibly morpheaform as it looks like a scar). Hopefully I've caught it early as the visible part is about 5mm across. The punch biopsy took a 4mm diameter core and went quite deep, so my (possibly wildly optimistic) question is: does anyone know if the biopsy takes a large percentage of the tumour, will future surgery be simpler / smaller?
Looking into Moh's surgery it seems they tend to take up to a 4mm margin, so in my case if I had 5mm visible (on the surface) the punch biopsy already took most of the centre of this out, so in theory most of the visible cancer went with it. Just wondering if anyone had an experience where the biospy took most of the cancer and the resulting surgery ended up with less damage to repair because of it?
Also the waiting time for the results on the NHS seem crazy...I was told morpheaform BCC is particularly aggressive (or can be) but I still might have to wait 6-8 weeks for the results, even though the dermatologist who did the biopsy said he was fairly certain it's this sort of cancer!
TIA :-)
Okay thanks. I removed the bandage today....although I know it's not a cure, the biopsy actually took all the visible part of the lesion away so I'm hoping if surgery is required it won't be require the removal of too much tissue (fingers crossed!)
