Hi everyone,
I'm new here. I got my results of a biopsy on my skin lesion on my scalp a couple of days ago...infact I knew the day the op was done a week ago as Dr was quite sure. In a weird way the relief was immense as I have been worrying about this for over a year. Its not as if I ignored it as I saw 3 dermatologists (1 private who called it a 'picky thing' )and 2 on the NHS (one gave me cream and one said he was not concerned in the slightest - this was as recent as June) So when i finally get the answer of what it is I feel I can finally get on and get rid of it.
So the private Dr did the biopsy offered me MOHs to remove it. He didn't explain much about it and was about to add me to the waiting list (which is Dec at the earliest) but I stopped him and started asking him about what to expect in terms of scarring. He didn't hold back in telling me there would be significant scarring where my hair wont grow. Surely he might consider this might not be in my best interests as it is on the crown of my head and no one wants a bald spot there. At this point he told me I can go with anyone I like and he would give me the report so I can take it to the next Dr.
This is where I am at. I am quickly gathering there's quite a demand for skin Drs! I have made an appointment with a plastic surgeon in a few weeks and am hoping he will be much more sympathetic to my concerns over appearance.
Do any of you know what type of thing a plastic surgeon might be able to offer me so I can go armed with lots of questions. The Dr said that there are few Drs with MOHs experience but it's equally effective to use other surgical techniques to remove it.
Many thanks
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
When I had a BCC removed from my chest earlier this year it was just done by simple surgery and although I have a scar it's faded even in the few months since I've had it done.
However, I haven't had anything removed from my head which could lead to a bald spot. I don't know what operating techniques a plastic surgeon might offer you but I guess your main question to him would be something along the lines of what is the best procedure to make sure that I don't have a bald spot and also to remove the skin cancer.
Do let us know how you get on and what he suggests.
