Husband had squamous cell carcinoma very large. On forehead. Had it removed. Left 1 month. Skin graft partial. Told today that it had gone into nerve ending and some of this taken out. This is why it is numb on forehead. But Told after conversation yesterday no further treatment needed. But plastic surgeon said usually radiotherapy. So asking 2nd opinion. But could be another 4 weeks. Originally Told that it would not spread and left a month before. But it had. What do we do as how do we know it has all gone. Not one scan done.
Hi Smudge 1999 and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne and, although I haven't had the same type of skin cancer as your husband, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
When I had a melanoma removed from my arm a few years ago I experienced a numb feeling in that area for some considerable time but it's gradually returned.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Let us know how he gets on with a second opinion.
Hi Smudge 1999. I had Squamish cell carcinoma last year too. I had CT & MR scans to determine if it had spread . Fortunately it hasn’t spread . I had surgery and stayed in hospital for a week , I didn’t have any radiotherapy or any other treatment . I’ve had 2 follow up check ups with my plastic surgeon and so far it’s still clear . I have ti have 3 monthly checks ups for 3 years then 6 monthly checks for 2 years . My SCC was in the perineum area and still no feeling in that area but my surgeon seems to think that’s pretty normal . Please keep in touch . This group helped me enormously .
