I had a large treatment area for BCC on my right shoulder upper back in March 2022. The treatment area was around the size of the palm of your hand. The treatment was 20 doses of radiotherapy as the area was too big to cut out or skin graft.
The area was almost healed about a year, but broke out along the resultant thread veins around that time. It has been though a number of cycles of almost healing only to break out again. My skin is sensitive to dressings so mostly I leave it exposed wearing loosely fitting clothes.
I'm beginning to think it will never heal and I'll be left with a constantly itchy and sore area.
What it the healing time for this type of wound and are there any large (eg 20x20cm dressings) that won't leave the surrounding area sore/inflamed? Also any creams recommended that I can put on the wound, which is sticky in the centre of the healing area?
Also, I have a daily photographic record of the wounds progress since radiotherapy. Almost 2.5 years worth I'd like to publish to help others. Any recommendations on the best medium to do this? Would be nice to be able to add daily pictures after publishing so that would suggest online, perhaps making it into a time lapse film.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Francis welcome to the forum. Im wondering if you have been back at the hospital or at your GP to let them see this? It might be worth getting in touch if you havent done that already as they may have some suggestions for you that may help with this fully healing.
Unfortunately photos such as you are suggesting are not allowed on the site and would be blocked and removed.
Had my 6 monthly checkup in May with the consultant and they didn't seem too concerned about it. In fact, rather than 6 monthly checkups, they gave me a two year open appointment - that if I have any concerns they'll book me in whenever I need it. I took that as a good sign.
With no experience with this sort of wound, it can change very quickly so I have no idea what I'm experiencing is normal or not. Just thought it would be fully healed by now.
