Hi,
About 6 weeks ago I had 2 BCCs removed ; one each on each shoulder/upper chest. They’ve kind of healed ok but one is still a little red and ‘angry’ looking. GP has said it’s nothing to worry about.
mum putting Vaseline on the scars after showering.
My question is does anyone have any advice for perhaps other lotions or creams that help reducing the scarring?
Also I’ve upcoming surgery for 2 more BCCs on my face and forehead next week May 1st and I’m a little anxious about them and the scars afterwards. And then I’ve further surgery not yet scheduled for a BCC on my back.
Anyway any advice would be most welcome.
All the best
Erik E.
Hi Erik and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
When I had a melanoma removed from my arm 8 years ago I was left with a scar about 6 inches long. When I asked the skin cancer nurse specialist what was the best thing to use to reduce the visibility of the scar she advised me just to moisturise with something simple like E45 a couple of times a day and told me not to waste my money on expensive potions. I followed her advice and my scar is barely visible.
By contrast, I used Bio-Oil (very expensive IMHO) on a lumpectomy scar two years ago and, although it too is fading, it's no better than the cheap E45.
Thanks Latchbrook, that’s very helpful specific information. I’ll buy some E45 cream and give it a shot and not invest in the more expensive lotions and potions. The scars on my shoulders are about 3 inches.
Anyway thanks so much.
All the best.
Hi, I've been using Cicoplast cream for 8 or 9 months on multiple skin graft wouds on my forehead and on the donar sites on my arms, very good results. A very little goes a long way and really does help to soften the scar tissue
Hi Erik My plastic surgeon told me vaseline was very good. However once things had settled down and scabs gone I massged a few times every day and hard with Bio Oil. My scars are barely visible now. I had a skin graft and a skin flap both on my face whch looked horrendous for a few months, but now hardly noticeable. You have to be firm when doing it, so that is why you have to wait until scabs and healing are done Good Luck. These bcc's are so annoying and I am not a sun worshipper, don't know about you, but I am 75 and apparently old age can cause them !!
