Recovery post MOHS surgery

Hi all, I had MOHS surgery last year (May 2020) for the removal of a BCC on my right cheek. The surgery went well (big relief). I had the usual bruising, swelling etc and my scar is healing well. In addition to the scar I now have a large cluster of broken blood vessels on my right cheek. They started appearing a couple of weeks after surgery and weren't there before the surgery and so I wondered if anybody else had experienced anything similar. They don't hurt or itch it is purely an appearance thing. My consultant told me that it would take 2-years for my skin to recover and so I appreciate I still have a year to go but I wondered if this was normal. Any responses would be great. Thank you.

Glad to hear everything went well with your Mohs' surgery last year and that everything is healing well.

I've searched the group to see if anyone else has reported broken blood vessels appearing where they've had surgery to remove a BCC but drawn a blank I'm afraid.

I don't know if you have a named contact at the hospital to ask questions of but, if not, you could post this question in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses will aim to reply within 3 working days. Hi latchbrook, thank you so much for your message and it's great to find an online community that understands what you are going through.

I was back at the hospital earlier in the year for a biopsy on my leg and so I took the chance whilst I was there to ask the dermatologists if they thought the broken vessels were normal. The common answer I am being given is that I need to give it time. I also asked for my concerns to be added to my notes so i'm hoping these will be reviewed as well.

Thank you for the link to the ask a nurse. I need to get past the feeling of 'not wanting to bother somebody about it'. It would be interesting to compare those who had had the surgery in lockdown in comparison to those who had been treated years earlier and how both groups felt post treatment. My hospital consultation, surgery, stitches removal and the review were all done during the first lockdown and I certainly felt a level of anxiety and almost guilt that the consultants were doing this rather than with colleagues in the Covid wards. I guess that's a different conversation topic though :o) Thanks again for helping x
