My OH was diagnosed with advanced probate cancer in Feb 2025 . The spread to his pelvis is " low Level " so he was eligible for radiotherapy and hormone therapy . Radiotherapy completed the end of June. His last PSA 3 weeks ago was 0.04.
He has received 2 appointments for 2 scans . 1 is a full body scan with contrast and the other is a CT scan .
Is this the usual process after treatment to see how well he has responded .
Thank you
Hello Drifter
Well with a PSA of 0.04 both the Radiotherapy and Hormone therapy are working well remember the Radiotherapy keeps on working for up to 12 months after the last fraction.
I would say your OH's oncologist is making sure that not only has the treatment worked - they are checking the little sods haven't gone "walkabout" anywhere else in his body. The issue is with pelvic involvement there are lymph nodes there and these are like a motorway system in the body and you don't want the cancer getting into them.
When I had my Radiotherapy I had my pelvic lymph nodes "zapped" as well as the prostate, although after Radiotherapy my PSA was reducing and it was decided no scan required.
i hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thank you Brian . The oncologist is very positive about things and we always feel so much better for seeing him . My husband is very positive and refuses to let this dreadful thing drag us down , however I'm not coping very well and have lots of negative thoughts , particularly when his PSA is due to be checked or has an appt for a scan . He is a wonderful man and i know he worries more about me than he does himself .
Thank you for listening
Don’t be too hard on yourself for the usual worries you will have, every couple goes through this. There is a name we always use for us in this prostate cancer nightmare it’s the couples disease for obvious reasons. Hormone treatments are hard on the couple and not easily dealt with. The waiting for appointments for scans and the reports and information after is another biggie.
Don’t feel that you’re alone, you’re not. So ask away. Anything. We can help. It’s fairly new to you right now so try to sit tight and await more good news, I say that because you already have a great start. I wish you and your OH all the best and come back whenever you’re in need of a shoulder, or applause.
Thank you so much for your lovely reply .I Find it difficult to talk to family members as trying to stay strong for everyone and friends have been amazing but everyone has their own worries in life don't they . I get great comfort from your lovely replies and knowing there is always someone to talk to on this group .
Thank you
