I had prostate cancer surgery on 25 July and had a Prostatectomy so far all's well. I'm doing my squeeze exercises 5 times a day but still going through about 6 nappies a day, just wondering if anyone can help and how long is it till things get better.
Not sure if it will help, but a nurse came today to fit my husband with a convene and show us how to apply it. It may be a short term solution for you as it is not long since you had the operation.
My husband is very incontinent and really no control but he has lots of other health issues and is 80. He was told to cut out or reduce caffeine containing drinks and any fizzy drinks as these have a tendency to go straight through you.
Gina
Hi Gina, I know you haven't heard from me for a while. I hope you are keeping well. I know I couldn't cut out caffeine, fizzy drinks maybe...but!
I've been very quiet in the community, a lot of it's to do with my m***** health. Still struggling a bit with people who I don't know. 6 weeks of weekly counselling is now into session no:15. That has helped, once I got to know my therapist.
Anyway, take care
xx
Steve (SteveCam)
Hi Steve, I was getting a bit worried about you so I am glad you are back here. Sorry about your reasoning though. I haven't written much lately either. It has been quite stressful for me as R is very up and down with his moods. There is no further treatment for him for the pca so it is down to pain management. His last psa a couple of weeks ago was 172, so creeping up fast.
We have just lost one of our best friends who died suddenly last week and who was exactly the same age as Richard and born on the same day. His wife is my very best friend so I am going down to be with her on Thursday and leaving R's carer in charge for a couple of days. She is wonderful and looks after things so well, including the chickens!! She was in charge for the week I managed to get away in August with my daughters and grandchildren.
Hope the therapist keeps being helpful. Keep in touch with us all.
Big hugs
Gx
Hi Campervan Man
I'm not a medical professional but my understanding is that incontinence recovery varies greatly between individuals. The statistics are that most people make a full recovery within a year, for some it's much quicker.
I had a prostatectomy two years ago this week. It took about 3 months before I didn't need a pad. I found that doing the squeeze exercises while sitting, standing, lying down and walking helped. Also getting in the habit of squeezing every time you stand up, sit down, lift or reach. I also gave up caffeine and alcohol completely while recovering as they can irritate the bladder. Some say that it's better to let your bladder fill up before emptying rather than going too often in an attempt to avoid leakage.
If my maths is right you are only 4 weeks post catheter removal so it's still very early days. Takes some time to retrain your muscles so don't worry about it too much.
Do I guess correctly you are a fellow campervaner? If so best wishes for a rapid recovery and happy camping.
Feel free to ask me anything.
Cliff
