Hi! My Dad was diagnosed last November and has recently had radiotherapy alongside hormone therapy. The cancer had started to go into his bladder and is in his lymph nodes but thankfully not in his bones. I wanted some help and advice with the effects of radiotherapy as he’s in a lot of pain after 2 months. He has good and bad days but it’s very painful when he urinates and he’s noticed some pieces in his urine. Anyway had the same experience? Any ideas on how long the pain could last? Thank you!
Hello Flower10
Welcome to the group although I am sorry to find you here.
Dad should not be in any pain whilst he's passing water, nor should there be any "debris" in his urine. You need to have a word with the Radiologists at the hospital and if they can't help it's his GP. If the pain becomes unbearable it's a call to 111 or a visit to A & E.
I hope this helps - please do let us know how you get on.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Flower10 , do you have the contact details for a cancer nurse specialist? If so, I would ring them for help. If you don’t have that, contact the RT team or his GP. It probably isn’t anything much but definitely seek professional advice.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hi thank you, I was hoping someone had experienced a similar recovery process as the doctors don’t seem to be able to give him any clarity on if it’s ok to feel pain when he passes wee. I see from your response it’s not normal so I will tell him to keep on at the doctors.
Hi Flower10
I hope the GP is doing a urine sample as he may have an infection . Although I am not medically trained I have had UTI’s in the past and it’s painful. If it’s clear he really needs to see his consultant for some support and answers .
my OH has had 6 fractions of RT and will remain on HT. yes everyone is different but this group are a god send . They direct you in the pathway but it’s up to the individual to follow or deviate if it’s not suitable .
Hope your dad feels better soon & you also take care
Liz & OH xx
Hi thank you, he’s had antibiotics and it isn’t an infection which he had hoped it was and they would clear it up.
i think he’s worried that something is wrong and his recovery isn’t going well. It’s hard when there’s no normal recovery with these things.
