Diagnosed 10 days ago over the phone. Since then finding it hard to concentrate on anything. One of the surprises is that I also developed the reading ability of a three year old! So much information. Does this brain fog lift?
Introductions : My name is Luca, I live on the second floor. Told you I had the attention span of a 3 year old. It's Ronnie.
I think I have another telephone appointment this Thursday 26th June, I take it to discuss treatment options. Deja vu feeling of exam fever. I really really haven't studied enough for this exam on Thursday.
Hi Ronnie ,
sorry to hear your diagnosis but you will have great support network in this forum. None of us are medics but will give you an open honest response to your questions
Yes brain fog is natures way of coping with bad news . My OH ( husband) was diagnosed March last year and we could not think or function without crying or second guessing ourselves. It does get easier .
Be ready with a list of questions you want answered even if you think they are irrelevant as they are not to you.
Do you know your PSA etc as that’s an important start to working out your treatment journey.
Hope you have someone with you and tell the medic you do and it’s on loud speaker . This allows you to double check as my OH didn’t pick up everything as his head was pickled with facts and figures being thrown at him . Ours was face to face and it was still very difficult.
take care , keep us updated and no doubt someone else in this great forum will also answer your questions .
best wishes
Liz & OH xx
Hello Ronnie (RonnieMck) Aka Luca .
Welcome to the group - looks like you will fit in well here!! Although I am so sorry to find you here.
If you were diagnosed 10 days ago I assume you have had a biopsy and MRI scan. Do you have your initial PSA reading, Gleason Score and your TNM Score?
I assume the meeting on 26 June 2025 is to chat about the MDT meeting and your treatment options?
Don't worry about failing the exam - Prostate Cancer is slow growing so you will have time to consider your options and resit the exam later.
Ask anything - no question is too small or trivial.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi RonnieMck (Luca)… I like your sense of humour - this will stand you in very good stead for the hoops that you will have to jump through in the coming months and possibly years. Why do I have the sense that you are going to be a great member of our gang? Anyway - you’ve made an amusing start and (if you have managed to keep reading this far in your 4-year-old state of mind)… welcome. AW
Hoorah, Alpine says we can go for ice cream. My 65 year old self and my 4 year old self thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for taking the time and trouble to reply. Take care Ronnie
The numbers PSA 36 MRI 5 (the radiographer wanted to award a 5.5 but that and I quote is off the scale) gleason 4 + 3 50% core. Sitting with a 16 page booklet Hormone Therapy from prostatecanceruk.org. Finding it impossible so far to cram for this exam.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
