My husband had his Biopsy this morning.

Just waiting now for results.

A little worried due to family history

  • The nurse that did mine told me right away, but he had been doing it for 25 years, but I did see my Dr within a week.

  • Hoping we will get results quickly.

    Hope your results were OK?

  • Hello Again

Another welcome to the Group.  i can appreciate your worry with Prostate Cancer being in the family. Your husband does have a fairly low PSA score (although it's slightly raised) and PIRADS 3 indicated there COULD be cancer so the biopsy is necessary to either confirm or rule out the cancer diagnosis.

Good luck with the results - they can take up to 6 weeks depending on your Health Authority.

Feel free to ask any questions however trivial - you will get answers.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello  and welcome. Your husband has a 'chunky' prostate which is nothing unusual but can start to cause problems with the water works as you get older. The prostate density (PSA/PROSTATE VOLUME) is below the level of concern. Did the doctor do a DRE (finger up the bum test) and did the MRI show what size and where the area of concern is? Histology is key but with these statistics there is a low likelihood of finding prostate cancer of any significance.

  • Hello

Yes, I am aware that a PSA test in itself isn't the "Gold Standard" for the diagnosis of Prostate Cancer - the MRI / PET Scan are the best 2 indicators at this time.

Prostate Cancer UK state that between 10% and 15% of men tested with a PSA of less than 4 have Prostate Cancer.

This is one of the reasons a new test for Prostate Cancer is needed - I am aware there are at least 3 new tests being trialed - let's hope these and a testing programme for all men at 50 can be rolled out as soon as possible.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • They definitely need more suitable testing,  since I started on hormone drugs my psa has dropped to 0.075 from 0.4 in Feb, 3 months.

  • Hi there. Yes he did have a DRE at the surgery. Dr said it seemed OK. There was an area of indeterminate changes within the prostrate

  • Sorry to read this

  • Hello

That's just what should happen. In theory the Hormone Therapy puts the cancer to sleep and the Radiotherapy kills it. As they say on TV "simples".

    Best wishes - Brian.
