First few hours

In a very strange place. GP told me a few hours ago he was 80+% sure I had prostate cancer and my hip x ray showed multiple sclerotic patches. I'm 69. Now in an emotional tumble drier, my lovely wife so upset, family being supportive and lovely but.... Seeing consultant soon I'm told. Not sure anyone can help but reading all the other stories makes me feel less alone and less scared. Sense I am at the start of a difficult journey. Struggling to get my head round this.

  • Hi Cader, sorry to hear

Do u have any more stats IE, PSA, Gleeson if u have had a biopsy, have u had a MRI or is it just an x ray.

    Regards

    Steve

  • A hospital nurse told me that if you are going to get cancer "Prostate Cancer" is the one to go for ! It is slow growing and there are many effective treatments for both curing and the long term management of the disease which can give you many years with a good quality of life,

Sorry if this sounds flippant but it is very true.

You are in the worst place right now waiting for a definitive diagnosis. Things will be better when you have this and you can move on and learn to live life with the disease (or cure it).

Until you get there try and distract yourself with the things you enjoy and the people you love.

All the best for the future. Rob

  • Hello, thank you for writing. Have an elevated PSA but don't have data but GP noted multiple sclerotic areas on my X Ray. Was pinning hopes on Prostatitis but X Ray suggests cancer and in hip bone. Feel fine apart from achy hips. Just waiting now for consultant but world truly upside down! Thanks again

  • I don't think they can say cancer at this stage.

U need to double check what the PSA is,  then u would need a MRI followed by a biopsy to confirm if cancer

    1. You've just made my wife cry again, tears of gratitude and hope. Thank you for taking the trouble to make us feel so much better.
  • Yes, your right early days but GP having seen X rays wanted to prepare me I guess. A long wait (a few days) to see experts now. Thanks again

  • See if u can get the PSA result tomorrow and come back here.

As long as not massively high unlikely to have spread to the bones.

    • Ok, will try and find out.
  • Found it but no idea says

77.6ug/L [<6.5].    Think GP must have thought high enough? Thank again.

  • Hi  , thanks for the PSA info.  This is a really difficult time for you and we all know what it is like.  I had a very similar PSA diagnosis 8 years ago.  Treatments are improving all the time as well, so IF it is confirmed as PCa the medics have lots of options.  Try and stay positive, and come back if you want any info or just want a chat.  David
