Hi there, I’m Tony, and I’m new to the forum.
I’m worried about my psa levels.
My GP phoned today and said the levels were extremely high and combined with the dre test, he was very concerned.
He referred me as red flag to my local hospital, but I phoned them to check if there were any cancellations but they said if there are, they just pick the next on the list. But what concerns me is they told me the soonest appointment for a red flag referral is 6-8 weeks!
Anyone else been in a similar situation?
And also, does extremely high psa levels and an abnormal dre test always mean prostate cancer?
Thanks everyone
Hi Anthony,
Further to the MRI scan, if you can’t wait & if you have a spare bit of cash that you can put your hands on, you could pay for a private MRI like I did, although for different reasons, mine was to try to find something that I thought was wrong… it was, but it saved some time later down the road, you know pretty much what’s wrong without the confirmation and this will give you more of an idea earlier than MAYBE the NHS can give you, my whole body MRI complete with a specialists comments, cost £1200.
And in case someone jumps on me about jumping queues, then expecting NHS treatment to fix it like I’ve had from someone before, by me paying for the scan I’m not taking a space or adding the cost to the NHS & if I did move up the queue a bit quicker for treatment at least someone else on the NHS didn’t have to be in the MRI queue behind me, I was just being proactive not reactive….Rant over!
Best wishes and good luck to you Anthony
John
My husband's initial psa at diagnosis was 1200, and that was three years ago and he is still with us. After the first injection of testosterone lowering drug, it dropped right down to 2 something very quickly. I agree with Tony, contact the hospital and tell then you want action NOW.

Alpine, thank you. I went to my GP because I was going to the toilet 6 times every night.
