Hi all,

I've posted in the general but thought I better say hello.

52 and blood test came back with PSA 4.9

Some issues with low white blood cell counts and high liver readings.

Doctor has done the digital and says enlarged smooth.

I'd say I have no symptoms,  but maybe I do and maybe it's my mind playing tricks.

Pretty constant lower back pain, seem to dribble after passing stools.

Ejaculation somehow feels different,  but had the snip in November.

It might sound daft but I'm paranoid it's there and spread, but would this be possible with a 4.9 psa ?

I'm hoping the irregular bloods are causing the fatigue and lethargy, and my psa is naturally 4.9 ?

I have the mri Monday, and scan Tuesday for a lump in my chest.

Any thoughts please.

  • Hi  - do you have any history of prostate cancer in the family?  AW

  • Unsure, I don't really know my dad's family as his biological family history is should we say shrouded in mystery after the war.

My dad has been in for tests related to prostate in some way, unfortunately he has late stage dementia so unable to help

  • Hi Steve

Think I answered on a different post so can't remember if it's a MRI you're waiting for, that's what you need to tell if there is any growth in the prostate gland, very unlikely will have spread with that PSA, can happen but very rare

    Steve

  • Just a thought  but had you been taking antibiotics before your psa test as that can show a raised count?

  • No antibiotics for a long time.

Just had my MRI done, they said the esults will go back to my GP.

Will he then decide on next steps. ?

    Thanks

  • Hi all,

So I was sent for an MRI on the 19th May,

I haven't had any results or seen anybody yet.

I've just had a call to attend for a biopsy next Wednesday, the person on the phone said I would then meet with someone a couple of weeks later.

If im going for a biopsy , they must have some area's they're aiming for ? Hence something showing on mri.

Or are they just shoving the needle in and hoping for the best.

    It's a Transperineal biopsy.

I really just need more information on what's going on.

I realize low PSA so low risk etc, but the lack of information is really hard.

  • Hi Steve

Must admit pretty poor to not give you MRI results, suppose if they have seen something then biopsy necessary.

You could ring the cancer centre and ask for a copy of the MRI report.

The main thing u want to know if something is showing which could be cancer, is it contained in the gland

In answer to your last question, U can have a low PSA and it's spread but quite rare

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Thanks Steve, ive been backwards nd forwards , even contacted the pals at the hospital. GP says chase with hospital, urology say your not under us until you see someone and we don't give out mri results,  radiology send me to urology. I called in to urology yesterday as I was local, I asked for an update and was told they are behind and are struggling for appointments. I wonder if a consultant has seen the mri and requests the biopsy.  He doesn't have availability before the biopsy but does after to go through both.

That's fine but that means I'll be at nearly 5 weeks from referral before I speak to anybody.

  • Hi you will need to ask if it's a transperineal biopsy.  When my OH had his they were not going to use this new approach until we queried it and had it changed

  • Hi, yes says transperineal.

Can I ask , did they meet you to explain why the need for a biopsy prior to carrying it out?
