Hi everyone - new to this group
my husband Pete (aged 59) was diagnosed on 5th March with high risk locally advanced prostate cancer -
he underwent an mri, bone scan and biopsy in February but nothing prepares you for receiving news that it’s cancer !
We saw the consultant on 5th April, and following discussion with Mr Kumar abd Mr Ibrahim my husband has opted for RALP ( robotic prostatectomy ) and extended removal of lymph nodes.
although pete is listed as priority we were told we are looking at 2-3 months wait before surgery - Pete has also said he would take a cancellation at short notice if one became available.
he has pre op next Tuesday
Pete has been remarkable from learning of his cancer - and we are positive and hopeful for a good outcome.
we know the recovery journey may not be easy- but he is ready to face whatever that may look like.
I have been a bit overwhelmed by our journey so far - information overload / reality checks/ kindness from others/ disbelief / I think it will really help to read what others are going through
sending love and positivity to those of you facing cancer, and to your family x
Hello Mrsjmb - A warm welcome to the online Prostate Community - we are a decent bunch!!
I am so sorry to find you here - but it's the best place for help, advice and general chat. You and Pete appear to have everything under control, however if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them, however trivial they may appear to be.
If you have a run through the threads on the forum, you will find plenty of Community members who have had surgery and have documented their journey - either on the thread or on their profile (you can read someone's profile - if it's been updated by clicking on their avatar - you can read mine but I still have my Prostate!!).
Talking of profiles, can I ask you please to update Pete's (you don't need to write a book like mine!) but if you stick his Gleason Score. Initial PSA and TNM staging on it will help Community Members help you. To do this on your home page, click on the icon of the chair - top left - then "profile" and then "edit".
I hope this helps - if I can do anything for you just ask. Best wishes - Brian.

My Dad was recently diagnosed, but we had a very strong feeling he had Prostate Cancer following an examination and they started him on hormone treatment very quickly so that was a given. What was a surprise was it had spread to his pelvis and he starts chemo on the 23/04. There is a lot to read, but my Dads had added complications to deal with insulin diabetes and a catheter, so it’s been a roller coaster ride since December. Everything is so life changing but I’m so proud of him, a few understandable wobbles but need to stay positive. I’ve started reading Deborah James book and it’s a good read so far, you might find it helps as well. Big hugs x
Hello CCX Another warm welcome to our little Community - again I am so sorry to find you here, but it's a great place for help and advice and just a chat.
I can feel for your Dad as I had an indwelling catheter for 10 months and am now an expert in changing bags and cleaning bits of my body!!
Can I ask you please to complete a little bit about Dad on your profile (see my post above to Mrsjmb on how to do this). That will help us to help you in future without asking the same questions over and over again.
We do have another forum you may find you want to join and a link to this is here: Chemotherapy forum . Just click on the link I have provided to go there.
Feel free to ask any questions, however trivial - you will get answers from those who have "been there done that".
If I can do anything for you please let me know,
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi ccx
A very very big welcome to the club nobody wants to be in but it's great to have you on board.
Yes I also have Prostate Cancer that has spread to my bones.
I have been on HT ever since (June) My PSA has dropped from 1000+ 0.2.
I also have added complications having had a permanent catheter for the past few years due to a Stroke.
Yes it is a rollercoaster with many bumps and wobbles on the way
You do need to stay positive which makes a big difference believe me.
Please please let me know if there is anything that I can help/support you with???

Hi Mrsjmb,
I am so sorry about Pete diagnostic and I totally in tune with all the roller coaster feeling of optimism, bombshell dread fear and optimism again. My husband diagnosed last November and for 3 days I was so cold from fear and so lost. Then few things happened: Firstly I found this community where people here are so kind and generous sharing their experience and love. I was told here that life will go on and this is not the end. I was told that we will learn to live with it and we do. My husband is doing well, carry on with all his sporting activities, looking after the grandchildren and keep baking wonderful cakes ( cake of today a delicious apple cake)
The good news is with Pete ( from your profile) that it is NO MO which I believe means that it did not spread to the bones and nodes. I know it is hard to see now but this is good news in term of not spreading.
You both have a brilliant attitude of positive and pushing for cancellation.
Please stay with this community, many members went through surgery and I am sure they will be happy to share. Also it is a good place to moan, cry and have a lough!
Lots of love
Dafna from Brighton
Good Morning CCX - That's great thank you. Do you have his Gleason Score and TNM staging please to add to that. (mine are Gleason 9 (5+4) T3aN0M0 for example)
Thank you - Brian.
