Hi all. Glad to have found this site. 2024 did not get off to a good start Unamused  I am 64 and have always been quite healthy. Just before Christmas developed some serious problems in the hips and at the same time went to the doctors about my trouble passing urine. Cutting a long story short, attended KCH for blood test, urinary flow test, mri and finally the dreaded biopsy. Not pleasant. Three days later my younger sister collapses and dies in the bath, 3 days after that I get the news about Prostate cancer. 20% 4 ratings and 80% 3 ratings. So could be a lot worse. Am horrified at how long radiotherapy will take....up to 3 years of hormone therapy before I even see the radio machine. Have to see the surgical dept now at end of month and I'm leaning towards that,  as much as I dread it. What a year....still can only get better...right.

  • Hello   A warm welcome to the online Prostate Community. I am so sorry to find you here and with the circumstances with your sister, you have my sincere condolences. 2024 can only get better for you.

So reading your post I assume the cancer is contained within the gland and you have been offered the choice between Surgery or Hormone Therapy and Radiotherapy. In nearly every case I have come across on the HT/RT route, the Radiotherapy is given 3 to 6 months into the journey. I assume, like me you have been offered HT for 3 years?

A little bit of housekeeping, if I may ask you. To stop us all asking you your diagnosis, can you please add it to your profile page (Gleason Score, TNM stage and Initial PSA). To do this on your home page, click on the chair in the top right, then, "profile" and then "edit". (You can read mine by clicking on my Avatar - but you don't have to write a novel !).

Once we know the above we can all offer you some great help and advice. But welcome again.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Steve a sad start to 2024.All I can say is pc is a rollercoaster journey. I had hormone radiotherapy in2019..For almost 4 years I had low psa....then Nov psa 33 ie biochemical recurrence. You havWearyto stay positive and get on with life....that's hard at times. Personally I had seven and a half weeks of radiotherapy the fatigue Weary in the last two weeks was the worst.

  • Hi Steve65, talk about kicking a man when he is down!  What a start to the year.  If as Brian said, you can add your journey history/stats to your profile, you will get much better advice from the very knowledgeable group of guys and partners who have been through the emotions you are going through with PCa.   It is all very daunting at the start but you will get help on this site.  Do you have anyone to help you on your journey?  Best wishes,  David

  • Hi Big Col,  I noticed you are an ‘old hand’ with this PCa having been at it since 2019.  Are you able to update your profile with your journey to date?  You refer on several posts to biochemical recurrence- is  that the same as hormone resistance?  My PSA is rising slowly (see my profile) after being stable for years, so would be interested to see your story.  Best wishes. David

  • Hi David I will update my profile later....in essence biochemical recurrence for me is a psa of 33,coincidently the same as original diagnoses, but no signs on ct,I have yet to do a bone and mri scan.Hormone resistance is not the same. Basically I got sad angry that it was almost 4 years in remission. I know I am going back on bicalutomide soon .like you I am looking for people with a similar experience.
